Ha, every time I go into ford something is wrong with the suspension or bearings or bushes.

It is beyond ridiculous.

Anyway, I'm getting the part from ebay australia for around 80 bucks....even then, seems a bit much but better than fords price.

After having one Australian-built Ford, it's on our 'never again' list. Minor things kept on breaking such as central locking actuators, wiring faults, a brake line ruptured, and it was incredibly hard on tyres and brake pads. The engine was mostly trouble-free but the auto trans was another story.

All things considered, it was a sub-standard piece of crap and Ford's decision to cease Australian manufacture was long overdue!

Same for Holden. The Aussie's just somehow couldn't assemble a car properly. It's like they got to 80% of the design and then just went to sleep. Having Euro assembled Ford's the difference is remarkable (I still would never own another one however)

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Having owned Australian sourced vehicles since 1979 I would dispute your statement.

Every one of these cars has been a very reliable vehicle and cheap to run. VB, VC, VL and VY Commodores

The current one has over 300,000 km, the one before that 275,000 km. Of those k's I've driven all but 38,000. My last car was 17 years old when I sold it, it was about 5 years old when I bought it. The current car is 12 years old, I bought it 11 years ago.

I don't recall the k's on the other two but they had similar k's for their age.

One thing that is sure, is that one cannot rely on anecdotes to prove this one way or another. Your experience does not prove aussie vehicles are reliable just as much as mine proves they are lemons.

However, it colours your opinion when one personally experiences it one way or another. Personally i'd never buy another territory after all the problems I've had.

Incidentally, I reckon thousands of these little clips have failed -- since mine, I've talked to other owners who have exactly the same fault. And, one ebay page alone has around 400 sales and a lot of 'watches'. Given there are a few different sites selling these, and ford probably fix it most of the time i would say thousands have failed .

You are correct, one persons experience does not necessarily prove a point.

My reply was to counter the sweeping statement

My experience and that of several people I know runs counter to this statement.

Australian assembled cars are fine..... on the proviso that they weren't assembled on either a Monday or a Friday
