A friend got his 16TB shipped. He must have bought it quite early on.

I ordered 2X 10TB and was cancelled this morning.

Got a 20 dollar gift voucher so not a complete waste of time I guess.

So yeah seems the naysayers were right all along. My 2x10TB order was cancelled with a single US$20 gift certificate. Read it's been the same with the 16TB and I assume the 4TB. I'm still surprised it took Amazon so long to email about the error and also to the extent they shipped some. I've heard that for those ordering via Amazon.com.au it's possible (i.e. has happened in the past), it could be rejected at the Amazon depot so even if it's shipped people may not receive their drives. We don't have the same thing although I assume the system they use with DHL, iParcel, DPD etc and local warehouses does have the capability to cancel orders if they really want to. Wonder if it will happen here?

For those in the US, I assume there's no chance and some have already received their order.

P.S. Someone in Amazon (I assume) is claiming 2512 orders were placed within 15 minutes https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/bsxol8/amazon_10tb_deal_2512_of_us_placed_orders_within/ . The snippet comment is without context. But the deal definitely lasted for at least 3 hours (and probably only ended because of stock issues) plus the 16TB even longer. So don't quite see how this explains why it took them so long to correct unless this is simply an explanation for why they decided to cancel rather than eat the loss. But even then seems to make still makes more sense to say how many total not how many in 15 minutes.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Well I still haven't seen any explanation for why Amazon managed to screw up 2 or 3 prices of different HDs, took at least several hours to notice the pricing mistake despite a massive number of orders, and then after that took nearly a week to tell everyone it was a mistake and also shipped a bunch of orders in the meantime. The long time for correction could be because they were seeking clarification or trying to negotiate something with Western Digital I guess. I think when the B&H Photo took a lot of orders of MX300 750GB when they weren't supposed to that was one of the reasons it took them so long (the other was Black Friday) to tell anyone. But at least in that case they did negotiate some sort of discount on other size drives. In this case the US$20 seems to probably just be a standard Amazon price error offer. Maybe Amazon just has a very weird way of dealing with price mistakes, I don't use them enough to have any idea, I'm just surprised that a company with as much as massive and a reputation as Amazon would be so bad at handling mistakes. I mean even most NZ retailers will tell you with 2-3 business days at most.

P.S. It seems for China they probably aren't cancelling orders because they have a history of failed court cases for doing so. So I'm not saying cancelling isn't complicated for a massive online retailer, but so is the whole ordering process. And it's not like price errors are a new thing to Amazon, I don't see why they wouldn't have a system in places which will automatically decide which countries they can cancel orders and which they can't which was developed many years ago.

I am guessing different countries and markets have different laws regarding pricing mistakes. I did think this deal looked a bit too good to be true to not be an error as per my initial post on this deal, so glad I didn't waste my time going through the process buying one.  Will anyone be out of pocket for currency conversion rates? I guess the voucher makes up for that. That is a lot better than what some NZ retailers will offer when they have pricing errors, and many will just cancel without some for of goodwill voucher.

Amazon is pulling out of China in case you missed it. It just cannot complete with local rivals like JD and taobao.

Technically they dont have to offer any gift vouchers etc if it's a clear pricing error (both in US or NZ laws), just be happy with the fact you didn't lose on the back-n-forth exchange rate (since Amazon only charges you when the order ships). And be extra happy if you DID receive the harddrives.

The promised shipping day is 1-2 weeks BTW, so technically it's within their ETA.
