thermonuclear: Horner was effusive in his praise of Lawson's drive even though Tsunoda finished higher.

Tsunoda finished just under 8.5secs ahead. I'm sure the team know how much time Lawson lost when he was spun around by Piastri.

Fantastic race considering the conditions, Verstappen proving again that he's a master of wet weather driving. Thought that the Alpine's were 'lucky' to get the other two podium spots but they made the right calls at the right times and benefitted hugely from the way the race unfolded.

Similarly, thought the VCARB's were 'unlucky' with the way the race went. Moving to the full wets was probably the right play at that time and they were lapping five seconds faster than the rest of the field when the Red Flag came out. A few more laps on those tires and they could have been in the box seat to capitalize with a free change back to inters when the race stoppage came.

Lawson again did nothing to hurt his chances I feel. Thought he made it equally difficult to pass for both Verstappen and Perez, just the Dutchman is a better driver and found a way to get it done cleanly. Perez (and Hamilton) was unable to make the move, says it all. Horner was effusive in his praise of Lawson's drive even though Tsunoda finished higher. Think this is an example of 'Horner-speak', much like his words after Ricciardo's tire test last season, laying the groundwork for the removal of Perez at some point.

I see Jos Verstappen came out and said some positive things about Lawson as well. Not sure this does Lawson any favours given the hostility between Verstappen Snr and Horner. However, it points to where the Verstappen camp is at and I'm sure if Max tells Horner he's comfortable with the Kiwi moving up, that's one more nail in Perez's coffin.

Yeah

Liam is the perfect teammate. he will get points and he will be happy to be a fully fledged 24/7 No.2 driver.

Bottas out too in favour of an up and coming rookie

Think the Audi thing might not be that amazing if you think back to say how Toyota tried back in the day. Cost cap means you can’t just swing all your might behind it. Best thing could be access to wind tunnels and proven race team systems/software given likes of Williams were running inventory on excel until very recently etc.

Autosport Magazine make the case for Liam Lawson...

Before I read it

Drivers Championship is meaningless. Obviously it isnt as thats what all fans gravitate to, thats all that matters.

Constructors is actually what matters. Million of $. Better pitlane locations. Perez brings money from Carlos Slim, but does that cover his massive cost to RBR in the Constructors payout?  Watched a few YouTube which may or may not be factual, but if you're paying millions into a sportsperson, what happens when that sportsperson is a dismal failure? It's a negative marketing result. You are paying to subside a loser (sorry Checo but its a fact)

In terms of team income yes.

In terms of driver motivation/long term dreams and goals etc, absolutely drivers.

every employer at Red Bull has so far lost nearly 10,000 pounds of bonuses   because of where Red Bull is in the Constructors table, im sure they are not happy with Perez.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Speaking of dismal failure....how good is Lance Stroll . Surely he cant continue.

He cant even get to the start line. His dad seems like a pretty ruthless dude. Let Lance go man. Put him in a Indycar or Formula-E that's where you go when your not good enough for F1.

Yep, have no idea what your average F1 factory employee pulls down a year but you'd have to think 50K pounds maybe? The loss of a 10K bonus in that context is a fair chunk of change. Perez is likely to be Nigel No-Mates when he turns up to Milton Keynes, especially if the bonus isn't on a sliding scale for position and has now been lost for not finishing P1 in the Constructors.

Saw some early McLarens on display at Manfeild race track this weekend for the MG Classic race series.  Awesome to see these both still maintained and out on the track in anger.

That Mclaren is a F5000 car similar to one driven by Graham McRae another Miramar Wellington oldboy. McRae went on to design his own cars.

Speaking of McLaren, I see Lawson's comments about not playing the NZ national anthem after McLaren victories have been picked up by Stuff. While it would be nice to hear it in recognition of the Kiwi motorsport great, I don't think Lawson understands that the anthem is selected by where the company is financially based/owned. In the case of McLaren, that is now the UK unfortunately.

What might have been if Bruce had lived to a ripe old age and was able to keep the company in Kiwi hands.

Also don't think much of the continued assertions out of the UK that their logo is not a stylized Kiwi. No way that hasn't been inspired by the Kiwi on the original cars despite how much they try to convince otherwise. Think they would embrace their heritage more than trying to distance themselves from it.

I think you missed the point. He discussed it during a podcast. He also mentioned Red Bull who play the Austrian anthem despite being based at Milton Keys

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Money talks louder than sentiment. Now what does  Qatar's anthem sound like?
