gzt: I don't really understand the focus on China. It almost looks like a weird conspiracy theory in lieu of addressing real issues.

You should perhaps read The Foundations of Geopolitics: The Geopolitical Future of Russia (1997)

 

A couple of key plans:

 

 

The United Kingdom, merely described as an "extraterritorial floating base of the U.S.", should be cut off from Europe

 

Russia should use its special services within the borders of the United States to fuel instability and separatism, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists". Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics"

 

 

It's amazing how effective they have been in the UK and USA.  (and remarkable lack of care in both countries when their interference has been exposed - the governments don't care).

The book is a fantastic political how-to for Russian world domination! I had a hard time reading it in its original Russian, so I figured I would wait for the movie. Unfortunately, Hollywood won't green-light anything unless it is a remake or a comic book these days, so it may be a few years before a movie is actually in theaters. HOWEVER, lucky for us, the play with Donald Trump as the American President opened in January 2017! The play is super realistic (damn near interactive) and much darker and scarier than black text on a white page could ever portray. It’s a non-stop thriller right from the get go. I'll admit I was a bit hesitant when I heard The Donald would be playing the part of the US President. And I’d be lying if I didn't admit that I thought to myself "I can't believe this guy is actually the President" a couple times when I was watching at the beginning. But the strength of the story does a magnificent job of sucking you in to believing his role as a compromised President. The intricate interweaving of the US election, Russian operatives, billionaire business interests, cyber espionage, and treason brings DC and global politics to life!...

You have actually presented a story which doesn't disprove the claim that Russia offered a bounty etc.  The General is tasked with getting American troops out of Afghanistan, what would you expect him to say?  Something to shoot the Commander in Chief in the back?

 

I think America has a big problem if they can't see from within that their President is compromised.  It's very easy to see from here that it's looking much like Russia - that a significant proportion of the public have been gaslighted and have stopped thinking for themselves or even read the news.  It's going to get worse.  Putin denied knowing anything or that Russia is involved with shooting down a civilian airliner, with assassinating people with Polonium and Novochock outside Russia, with countless extrajudicial killings within Russia.  But they love him...

 

If free and fair elections were held tomorrow, Putin would win again in a landslide.  They're (Russians) not living behind an iron curtain or information firewall, they're living in a state that controls the message the public sees effectively.  That's where you're heading in the US.  You're actually helping it too.  For example in the NBC link you provide above, you misquote the General and have created your own headline from what he said:

 

"It just has not been proved to a level of certainty that satisfies me"

 

That falls well short of a denial that would suggest the NY Times presented "fake news".

 

Then also in the article:

 

"But asked whether he assesses the Taliban are not upholding their end of the peace agreement, McKenzie said, "Absolutely.""

 

So some US politicians want to exit Afghanistan because it's election year, the General tasked with exiting isn't so sure it's a good idea.

 

The end result of leaving will be that the US is probably going to have al Qaeda reborn with it's own nation state, which is going to be a huge ongoing PITA to everybody - including Russia.

The 2019 real median incomes of family households and nonfamily households increased 7.3 percent and 6.2 percent from their respective 2018 estimates."

Low-income Americans, who were laid off in disproportionate numbers by restaurants, retailer and businesses, in particular were less likely to respond to survey takers, Census says. After attempting to adjust for that gap to simulate a normal survey, Census found that median income would have increased 4.1% instead of 6.8% and the poverty rate would have declined 0.9 percentage points -- instead of 1.3 percentage points -- to 10.9%.

 

And while the improvements in income and poverty mark “a step in the right direction, many families have just barely made up for lost ground from the Great Recession” of 2007-09, Gould says.

 

After correcting for data collection inconsistencies before and after 2013, median income is 6.5% above the 2000 level, Gould says. And, she says, last year was the first in which nonelderly household income topped the 2000 level. That translates into average annual growth of just 0.2% over the past two decades.

 

 

Also demographic shifts in household makeup affect household income - individual incomes did not rise anywhere near as much.

 

  • Between 2018 and 2019, the real median earnings of all workers and full-time, year-round workers increased 1.4 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively (Figure 4 and Table A-6).
  • The 2019 real median earnings of men ($57,456) and women ($47,299) who worked full-time, year-round increased by 2.1 percent and 3.0 percent, respectively (Figure 4 and Table A-6).
  • The 2019 female-to-male earnings ratio was 0.823, not statistically different from the 2018 ratio (Figure 5).

Gallup has a table where it shows that Independents outnumber Republicans and Democrats.
