Hi there is ii possible to interchange the sky tv card between different decoders.  I have a my sky decoder and my parents a standard satellite decoder.  Will using either card in either decoder work?  Is there anything you have to do or is it just plug and play?

Did it a few months ago. Initially ran into issues, called Sky and they gave me the old 'not supposed to do that!' Called back again, got a different CSR, and they talked me through the LNB settings and it worked fine.

So while you're 'not supposed to', you can. Just may run into initial teething problems.

Cheers nice to know it can be done.  i tried it this afternoon.  took my card out of my my sky decoder and put it into my folks sky decoder, but no luck.  it either asked me to put the card again or a "atmospheric conditions" message came up.  was not game enough to fiddle around with the settings.

The following are the setting's for the different dishes on Sky.

Thanks to Cyril in this discussion.

cyril7: As the others have said its the LNB oscillator frequency setting that needs adjusting. The current menu setup can be a bit confusing so here is how they should be set for each option. Note older single throat LNB's have an LO frequency of 11300MHz, the newer dual throat one with the oval (wide) radome have a 10750MHz LO frequency.

The first part of each line below is the Setup option shown on the blue banner at the very top of the screen, the second part after the arrow is the option to chose or enter.

----------------------
Setting up a New Dual Throat LNB with an 10750MHz Local Oscillator (LO)

Select LNB Setup in the Advance Menu

LNB Power > ON

Set 22kHz Tone Use > Satellite/LNB Switching

Set Local Oscillator LowBand Frequency > 10750

Set Local Oscillator HighBand Frequency > 11800

Enable 22kHz Tone at Orbital Position > 156 East -Optus D2

This should complete setup for 10750MHz LO dual throat LNBs.

---------------------------

Setting up an Older single throat LNB with 11300MHz Local Oscillator

Select LNB Setup in the Advance Menu

LNB Power > ON

Set 22kHz Tone Use > None

Set Local Oscillator Frequency > 11300

This should complete the setup for older 11300MHz LO LNB's

------------------------

One further point, if you live in a MultiDwellingUnit (MDU) where you share a dish, you will most likely find that you are setup for 11300, however the LNB Power may be set to OFF. This would be quite normal. In that case you would need to ensure that the DC is set to OFF when you return to the MDU, however check its status to start with, and ensure its back as it was when returning to the MDU. 11300 is normally used for MDU's as the transponders sit lower in the LBand IF therefore there is a system loss advantage.

Thanks for the feedback.  I took my card (from my mysky decoder) and then put it in the other standard sat decoder and selected the Advanced Setup option.  It then asked me for my pin .. and I entered my pin number (Tried both - I seem to have one for ordering movies and another one for my account).  It then said please enter you valid SKY NZ card ??  Is there a pin thats applicable to the decoder itself (dad does not what it is) or should my pin number which I presume is associated with my card work?

Just to let anyonelse you has tried this know.  It appears the MYSKY card may be incompatible with the standard sat decoder.  My friends card from his standard decoder works fine and is interchangeable without any problems. Cheers.
