Sweet that sounds promising. Been looking at a few diff models in the panasonic range. I think I will pass on the bluray packages at the moment in favour of the DVD ones, cheaper and if I get a bluray player will probs be a PS3...

I can get:

http://www.panasonic.co.nz/at-home/entertainment/cinema/sc-pt875gn-k.html for $825 at staff price.

or

http://www.panasonic.co.nz/at-home/entertainment/cinema/sc-ht65gnk.html for $560 at staff price

The SCHT65GNK seems good as it is cheaper and actually has HDMI inputs etc and I dont really need the DVD part as I usually use my Xbox360 or PC for Movies off USB anyway. I know its not going to blow me away with music and SQ, but it will be all good for 5.1 gaming and movies right?

What do you reckon between those models? Would I be missing out much on not getting the DVD one? Or would it be better due to having inputs on the other?

The first has 4 of the tall speakers, as opposed to the 2 included in the latter. Plus it's got the iPod docking (if that suits you).

I dont mind too much for the front speakers if they are tall or not, I can find a spot to mount them easier on the wall, the rears are more important to me. And Ipod docking is okay, but I dont really sit there listening to music much, I can stream music off of my PC anyway.

In terms of sound quality goes would there be much of a difference if I got the unit with only two tall speakers? Enough to warrent a $300 price difference?

Thanks for your help with this Magu, it is greatly appreciated _b

Can't tell without listening to both of them, but I'd say the tall ones probably have more speakers of different frequency ranges in them. This should give you a 'richer' sound. May not be enough to warrant a $300 price difference, but audio is kinda subjective.

I have four floorstanding speakers because I wanted the rear ones to be able to reproduce any frequencies the front ones can, I had the space for them, and also because I intend on expanding to a 7.1 setup when I move to a home with a bigger media room. YMMV.
