xarqui, I think your summation is correct. The 'network speed' reported by the player is vastly different between wifi and hardwire ... in the order of 40 times kbps more if I recall, not just the 50% expected between 54 and 100 mbps.
I have ferrite cores on each end of the TV's power cord (came with the TV) and also a spare one which I will place on the HDMI cable.
I was more thinking along the line that the physical bulk of the TV is causing a wifi reception hole around the Tv. The TV is a large flat surface with metal in it, this can prevent wifi passing through it and or bouncing and reflecting signals. Either way it will make it difficult for the media player to maintain a good wifi connection. Moving the media play, even a small amount, could make a big difference.
From my own experience. I use a laptop as a media player connected to a TV. If laptop is on the cabinet to the left of the TV, connection speed is around 14Mbps, If to the right of TV about 25 Mbps, If on the floor in front 50 - 60 Mbps.
Depending on what format your HD content is in, you generally need a pretty solid 15 - 20 Mbps through put to have it stream nicely.
