What is the easiest way to have your account setup to bypass the cache farm?

I tried calling Telecom, got bumped up to level 2, where she ignored my original request and went on about how I currently wasn't connected to the internet (I tried to change IP addresses so my modem picked up a non cached one too many times in a short period and was temporary blocked)
After a period of awkward silence where she didn't respond but you could hear her typing, she hung up on me.

The reconnecting to get another IP address usually works fine but lately it refuses to pick up one outside the farm

I would suppose the question would be why do you need to bypass the cache? What impact is it having on your browsing experience so you feel the need to bypass it?

Depending on your plan you can get a static ip. Then depending on your requirements you may be able to be added into the bypass list. But they do periodically reset the list back again as there really shouldn't be any reason why you shouldn't be going via the cache and if It's broken then you should look to get that fixed.

Its normal for web developers and businesses running older web applications to need to bypass the cache.
With slingshot you just login to the control panel, choose the option to disable caching and then reboot your router.

I've found various downloading sites fail to work correctly

Sites like filefactory.com and megashares.com for example
When connecting via the cache with accounts to these providers, more often than not you wont be able to resume the download, the download will also runs at slow speeds and you cant always connect as they think you have too many concurrent connections open already
All this is fixed when connecting in an IP range not using the cache farm.

These sites are examples but i have stuck it on multiple downloads from various other websites where you just want to download a single file, no resume and its super slow.

The megashares issue I have tried to have fixed in the past by contacting both Telecom, didnt get resolved as it may be their setup

This is interesting - so are you saying that the caches are changing your IP address to one of their public ones?
Most decent ISP's that use caching use a function called IP Masquerading which makes the cache completley transparent so your actual ip address is what the foreign server sees you as. Where as older caches will make it appear as if you are coming from the caches ip - AKA proxying or sometimes transparent proxying.

and here is an example of the problem

This was with an IP range of 219.89.247.*

This one that works fine is with an IP range of 122.57.244.*

I have never had issues with any addresses starting with 122.

If you guys are still having this issue, please PM me or e-mail me on pl at telecom dot co dot nz with your account number, phone number and current IP address plus some more details on the issue. I also assume you've logged a case with the helpdesk?

Have you tried connecting to a HTTPS based file service such as dropbox?

Have you tried taking any lan traces showing the issue?

If you could e-mail me i'll pass this information onto the relevant group.

this may sound like a dumb question but i take it HTTPS sites are not cached??

We use a web based app at the office and alot of people are complaining that it does not load properly and i had a thought it may be from that but the fact the site is HTTPS it should be fine assuming that the Cache does not affect such sites.

FYI the Site uses Amazon Cloudfront CDN Im not sure if anyone else has had issues with site hosted on this platform.

Nope. Only HTTP GET requests are cached. So anything over HTTPS or FTP or similar won't be cached.
