I have a telstra AU s4 lte. I have lte option with vodafone. No lte option with telecom 4g sim.

Wondering what my options are apart from flashing xt rom?

I want to root my phone hence avoiding knox on samsung.

Presume you have a 4G Telecom XT Sim? Not all of their SIMs will work on 4G at the moment (to change in 2014 I think).

Tried a custom ROM? There are many to pick from - either a customised Samsung TouchWiz 4.2 or 4.3 ROM, or even the Google Play Edition or something completely different based off AOSP like CyanogenMOD.

If you didn't want to go too far from bog standard, you could install a pre rooted stock ROM (with KNOX removed) - either 4.2 or 4.3.

An app like this is the best option, but may not work on the most recent software (It doesn't on the Note 3's). If you're rooting anyway, try just flashing the Telecom CSC file & factory resetting.

There's a whole stack of different approaches of varying complexity, much easier with root of course - can't recall exactly which network operator data file needs to be manually edited, but IIRC it's the same one as fast dormancy.

Really hope Telecom's operator profile is updated universally in the near future, too many people in this boat.

Try following This Geekzone post to upgrade your phone to the Telecom firmware if you're planning on using Telecom permanently, this will essentially turn your current S4 into a Telecom S4.

Just make sure you have the I9505 variant of the phone, you almost certainly do, but would pay to make sure anyway.

My Nexus 5 worked flawlessly on Optus 4G. I'm assuming it's going to work perfect on Telecom or Vodafone 4G too - yet to get such a signal.

So you are rooted? If so you can do what i did.

enable the LTE option on the Mobile Networks/Network Mode selection, edit' persist.radio.lteon' and set the value to 'true'

I tried this after reading the echoerom faq, for which this section is pretty universal for any ROM on the 19505 which is rooted.

Q: LTE is not working, how can i fix it?
A: Using Root Explorer or an analogous app go to data >property>persist.radio.lteon.xml open the file in Text Editor and change the value to true. Save and Exit and Reboot.
(if you don’t have the persist.radio.lteon.xml file, download and paste it from here and change permissions to rw—)

If this doesn’t work and you don’t have LTE option in settings, try downloading and flashing this zip .

in the end i had to use this trick although differently

for some reason i was not allowed to modify that file

so a kind geekzoner emailed me the file and i overwrote the original file

unfortunately after a few days the OS put back the originall file! like big brother was watching!

so i overwrote the file again and this time i changed the permissions according to the site's advise ...

let's see what happens ...

So weird I get 4g showing then ad soon as I get data use the entire data breaks down the 4g (lte) option disappears and the file is overwritten with the original 4g off.

Big brother Korea is watching me man

Just the off chance perhaps 4.2.2 doesn't support telecom 4g? I hate technology

I'm on 4.2.2, rooted, 4G works on mine. I just did that trick with that file then put it back to how it was, it seemed to keep working. No idea why.

Good idea. Hopefully they have a non Knox 4.2.2 rom there although the ability to control access on 4.3 is so tempting ... are there any non knox 4.3 rom?

AFAIK Knox isn't in 4.2.2, it's in 4.3, that's why I'm still on 4.2.2. If you want a non-knox 4.3 rom I think Echoe ROM can do it - this one I think.

May I ask where you get just CSC files from and not the whole tar.md5 rom?
