VDSL2 is a mandatory full install for *every* customer. Rather than the old costs which were up to $400 for a naked POTS off connection Chorus charge a monthly fee over 30 months to recover the full installation of either a master filter of dedicated jackpoint.

Every ISP pays the exact same charges to Chorus.

I can read and do understand that. Every ISP has the same costs but can choose to absorb these for the change to aquire a new customer or pass them on.

The challengers will absorb the cost, bundle and try to win new customers the encumbants will not - thats competition man.

I am a household who each month spends $150 on my fixed access $250-$300 on my mobile and $60-$100 on 3 other mobile phones in my home. I have remained loyal to Telecom for over 30 years.

Somebody take my money......

Case in point.

Snap have offered me free install for a 24 month plan, Voice, Calling Plan, Free damn expensive German Fritz mode, and 200G for $95 per month. Maybe they want my money.

I'm a long time Telecom customer who can't do 50% of things on the Internet I'd like to do (I.E International gaming servers)...due to slow speeds/Latency... but still have to pay the same price as others who can! Annoying, frustrating and unfair! I'm in Horotiu just north of Hamilton and I'm still on ADSL1 @ 5mbs and unable to get ADSL2, VDSL or UFB? Chorus web-site states that cabinisation was due to be completed in May from my exchange HOT/H. I have a Telecom Thomson TG585 v8...with the following Line specs....

Had Telecom offered free installs and Snap decided to charge $99 I'd put a beer on you posting saying that it's unfair that the bigger player in the market is subsidising costs to put others out of business.

The ISP market is a cut throat race to the bottom with very low margins for most residential users.

No I dont actually have an issue with Telecom.

I have regular meetings with all LFCs, RSPs and ISPs from C level to grass root engineers across mobile fixed and international networks. I do understand their margins and their business challenges very well.

But this is me as a subscriber not as an employee of a technology company.

If Telecom installed for free I would happily sign up - if only the damnn web portal would let me.

Now I am faced with a choice to pay for a service I dont feel is fair and as a consumer I will exercise my right to shop arround and see what deal I can get with my $450 plus ARPU. There are a lot of Telcos who would take the opportunity with both hands.

The most loyal customer is one who complains and gives your organisation the chance to address the issue. Telecom should applaud a customer who gives them the chance to address the issue rather than loose me and them have high costs to get me back.

Wouldnt you do the same?

Yes, POTS is included as with all our plans, as for pricing it's our standard phone pricing (see the pricing on our home plans) - we're still working on portions on the website so this will soon be updated. See Here for our rates.

Telecom, please update your website ASAP to detail the charges for toll calls and mobile calls, and free local calling etc. Need to show my wife about the whole package so that we can make an informed decision.

I've got high line attenuation (24 Down). My line goes like this:

Patch Panel > Master Splitter > Thick black twin core through the ceiling > Across to power poll > Down a conduit > under the street to a small cabinet almost opposite my house > down to the Otahuhu exchange (800M?) away.

I'm pretty sure the small cabinet is just a 'junction point' crone block? I.e. doesn't have network equipment in it.

Will Chorus pull new cable through from the junction box across the street?
Will Chorus try a different pair between the exchange and the junction box?

800m is at the edge of performance benefit VDSL versus ADSL...... any friends in TNZ or Chorus who can do a real test for you?

I appologise for my comments I just got annoyed by my specific predicament and the struggles to get the service ordered.

I am certain that Telecom will sort out these teething issues soon. VDSL speed improvements will be significant and I am certain your subscribers will be very happy.

I know Neil isnt a marketing boy but dont know about Michael.

*sigh ... I am thinking twice about it now despite having "ordered" online ... I think i'm about 650m from the cabinet ... so VDSL only benefits those in a small radius! (if you consider how the copper does not travel through houses and need to go around things this radius is darn small!)

Ordered business VDSL yesterday from Telecom, install date is this coming Monday. I wonder how much affect it'll have on our connection, which isn't anything fantastic.

I think I saw that if the finished connection speed is less than 15 Mb/s downstream then Telecom will move you back to ADSL at no charge (if you live in an area where ADSL is cheaper).

Charging the $99 install/checkup fee sounds fair.

But what happens with the splitter already installed that is being checked?
Does it get removed and a new one put in place?

Happy to pay $99 less cost of splitter which is say $10-15 at the bulk price I assume Chorus buy them at...

Does this also mean "cowboys" like coffeebaron are out of a job now since Chours will charge the fee regardless?
