Offtopic: I noticed that everytime I connect my linux pc to the ONT I get an IPv4 and an IPv6 ip address and I can't access anything until I disable IPv6.
I am not in the IPv6 beta program :D
Update: BP opened a ticket with chorus, and Saturday in the morning I got a visit from a friendly Chorus Tech. He mentioned that he could see some errors on my fiber connection. He told me that it should not impact my speeds, but re-joined the fiber inside the ONT anyway.
So far so good. 2 days later and I can't see those horrible upload speed any more. Will keep monitoring.
BigPipe mentioned that they can still see some errors on my line, and I can still notice some weird slowdowns, but nothing as major as it used to be.
An iperf on uplink fluctuates between 300mbps (yeey) and about 20mbps(argh). Not sure if this is normal behavior or not.
I'm wondering if anyone on BP in wellington on gigabit can leave an iperf3 running and allows me to abuse it from time to time just to compare results :)
I don't think that's normal - I always get ~450mbit upload to the Spark speedtest server (testing with speedtest.net in a browser, speedtest-cli always gets lower results), testing in Auckland. 20mbit seems quite low, I suppose it's possible if your GPON line is congested but that shouldn't happen often. Sounds like your fiber line is still below par to me - I had thought that line quality concerns would be a thing of the past with UFB but I guess there is always a way to screw things up!
I'm testing with a single TCP stream in iperf to a server in Spark in Wellington and getting about 29mbps right now.
That is a bit different from speedtest to Spark AKL from browser that gives me about 220mbps :D
And speedtest-cli v1.0.0(default in ubuntu) gets about 250mbps while speedtest-cli 1.0.6(default in homeassistant) gets about 350mbps.
I just checked on chorus site, and on my street there are 5 houses on gigabit (including me) plus another 8 on lower speeds (30-200) out of about 40 houses. I doubt we have any congestion, unless everyone on gigabit is pushing up to max :D
