Have had gigabit here for a number of months, could count the times I was actively using more than 200mbit on my hand. That being said downloading BF1(43GB) in something like 8 minutes was nice the single time I did that.

in my house there can be up to 10 devices all trying to get 1/10 of 1Gbps via wifi. so if you router maxes out at 1/3rd 1Gbps that ain't good - first world problems!

my asus rt-ac3200 has 3 wifi antenna one can do 0.1Gbps, the other 2 can do 0.6Gbps so that way all my guests can share 0.1Gbps and I get 0.6 on my 2 devices and my wife and the home network video steam stuff can share the other 0.6 lol

250Mbps on an iPhone6 using 5GHz WiFi is a 100% perfect result and is about maximum you will get in the real world for a 2x2 device.

I'm late to the party here but I'll just point out that so far, I haven't found a single instance of the Max Fibre plan not achieving the described expected speeds, ONCE ALL CUSTOMER RELATED FACTORS WERE CORRECTED FOR. Actually that's not quite true - I have found once instance but the issue there was uncovered and explained.

I don't think I have seen anyone suggest to use the windows 10 Ookla speedtest APPLICATION - not the webpage, and to make sure you select the Spark Speedtest server closest to you.

stop reading into things to much

hes just suggesting testing using that app and see what you get.

there have been instances where the speedtest.net webpage has mis reported speed but its been pretty quiet on that front recently

I'm saying that so far everything you have posted sounds like it's working perfectly fine. The wifi results are excellent, and the wired laptop speeds are likely showing up an issue with the laptop / drivers / browser / security software / power profiles / ethernet cable / phase of the moon.

(Except for the last item in that list, I have seen ALL of those impact the speed on the Fibre MAX plan)

Who knows, the only way is if you have a laptop with built in LAN port or a desktop with built in LAN port (more likely to get the 1Gbps - I've used cards, dongles, etc - they don't give 1Gbps). Even then, there was a guy who had a desktop with a LAN module that couldn't do 1Gbps! (search the 2degrees forum)

There is nothing wrong with your router. It's more than capable of routing 1Gbps.

My Ex has an HP Envy DV6 and it's wired Ethernet speed was rubbish even though it said it was gigabit capable it really wasn't it was an atheros built nic

Good point. I've historically used chrome on win10, and performance is all over the show - there are a LOT of ad's that come up on the webpage all demanding processing, and chrome is a resource hungry buggy beast like IE used to be.

I know Vodafone is verbotten for many users here, but I used cable at home from when it was telstraclear network, and it runs pretty well for me.

Of course the above is mostly meaningless except for comfort that a connection is running at the speeds you perceive you've paid for, and there it gets trickier. Customer equipment plays a huge role, and manufacturer claims on speed are nearly meaningless as so much can influence performance....

Talkiet... Speedtest voda to spark was 28ms/780mbps/62mbps.... guess there's some interconnects needing tuning...

First-time poster. A bit baffled by the speeds I've been getting with my new Gigatown install. We moved out of the CBD last week where we had Gig service and consistently had speeds in the realm of 700-800/400. Moved all the way up to Opoho last week and Chorus came out on Thursday morning...very happy that they were able to set it all up on the same day (rather than the two appointments they had originally planned, and within a week of the call, mind you), but now can't seem to break about 300 downstream. Can still consistently do 400+ upstream. Actually, I should clarify...I can achieve the previously mentioned speeds IF I use the Spark website-provided speed test tool. Using ST.net, however, to say 2 degrees Dunedin, my previous go-to server, peaks at 300/400. I'll add that I haven't tried in the wee hours of the morning yet, so my only experience thus far is during weekend congestion. Just find it odd that I never had this issue living in the CBD.

Hardware setup on my end is the same; did I just end up on a congested node or something?

There was someone who knew how many fibre lines share how many Gbps ... but you need to test when off peak eg 7am on a Sunday for example, to get the uncongested throughput?

That probably has a lot to do with it, then. Previous address was in a flat in a business-heavy district that probably wasn't using much of their broadband; now, student-heavy area with probably 5+ to a flat.

Is this something Spark/Chorus monitor with any regularity to alleviate congestion? Or is it a matter of once it's installed, you're on your own?
