Lightbox failed as Spark didnt have the bottle to remove the "free" sign at the end of 12 months.  If Lightbox had been forced to stand on its own two feet rather than the fluffy metric of reducing churn then there would have been a very different outcome.

Spark has the capacity to learn from its past mistake with Spark Sport.  If it holds to financial rigor and ensures that SparkSport meets its financial hurdles (as the outgoing CEO claims) then we will see if its viable.  If it repeats its past mistakes then its another doomed Telecom attempt in the media space.  BT Sport had years of subsidising sport, endured a bidding war on rights with SkyUK, and when prices started to go up to make it a financially viable project then subscribers started to fall (and the CEO with it).  The new SkyNZ CEO has signalled he is ready to burn shareholder value to maintain SkyNZ as the home of NZ sport - so I'm seeing a repeat of the UK experience all over again.

But I'm not going to be surprised to see significant discounts included in the Unplan Entertainment package or, as you say, the introduction of a Unplan Ultimate type product.  Its inevitable.  Just hope the end outcome isnt deja vu all over again.

Tell me where Lightbox failed. Whats the purpose of Lightbox? If you don't know the latter you cannot comment on the former

You say to stop giving it away free and learn from mistakes, after you have just suggested to give Spark Sport away for free??

Plus you now see the new Sky CEO as at fault, for trying to rescue a dying business?

Better discussed in a Lightbox thread rather than retention thread, dont you think?

I said that I expect Unplan Entertainment to include 12m free Spark Sport (subsidised to the same extent as FanPass was) - not indefinite free Spark Sport.

No to both. Lightbox is a retention product, this is a retention thread. But never mind

I wonder is Spark has ever contacted any of their existing clients who are paying more for the same service? Surely Spark can easily run a report on customers that falls under this category. Or better yet, they can notify customers whose contract are about to expire to get them to check what the current market is offering at the time. Am sure they have this info as when I login to MySpark you can see the date on when you joined. Or is this too much a goodwill that they rather let existing customers figure out the hard way? I have dealt with a few companies (not ISP) that proactively notifies existing clients when there is a potential to save on cost.

Yes, there are many methods this is done through.

@hio77 - Just confirm for me, there is no point on me being on the Unplan Entertainment plan if I have already redeemed the Netflix option and am now paying for Netflix directly - and also have Lightbox provided via my mobile plan. It would hold no value for me - correct?

You will be on that plan for the term of your contract, after the 12m you are able to enable partner billing.

Sorry I don't know what that means, but I probably didn't word my question well. I'm on the standard Unplan, not the Entertainment one currently. Netflix activated early 2018, prior to ever being on Unplan and I am now paying Netflix directly. So given Lightbox is provided as part of my mobile plan, a move to Unplan Entertainment doesn't deliver me any benefits that I'm not already getting does it?

It's 3am and I'm at work, the Spark website is still in the process of being updated, but Netflix Standard for free forever on Unplan Entertainment or ADSL/VDSL Unlimited Entertainment (or paying $3.50 a month for Netflix Premium) is pretty sweet.

Yes I just mean you can't get into the Shop or MySpark sections yet.

Are pay monthly plans changing too? :)

Not that i could answer that, but to be totally honest... Wait a few hours?

I don't pay attention to what the mobile teams deliver generally... It's not that i dont care, I'm simply otherwise occupied :)

I left this un-clarified, now that the new plan is out it's alot more easier though.

Likely cheaper too ;)

@hio77, if you can pass it on to the right people: On the page to select a plan (after entering your address here), in the "Unplan important things to know" bit at the bottom, the link for "Netflix with Spark terms" is not quite right.

http://author.spark.co.nz/help/other/terms/offers/netflix-on-spark-plan-terms/

Probably should be:

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.
