1.00.08 is the latest public release. There is a new firmware coming, but it seems to be delayed for a long time.
jnimmo: Any suggestions on how to get the Spark Mesh to update?
Purchased one second hand, it’s stuck on 1.0.0.08, and clicking the update button on the Smart Modem just prompts for a password (and the defaults don’t work). Have tried factory resetting it and leaving for a few days.
As already said = you are on the latest build. Also - that update button doesnt do anything for some reason. Smart MESH will autoupdate themselves if an update is made available by Spark, but there is no way to force it.
I asked about this quite a while ago on this thread and I think Hio responded.
Given the SmartMESH autoupdates, the ability to force an update is not for end users but for Spark support staff. This could be used for testing a specific fix before releasing the update to the autoupdate process.
The way it is presented in the UI is confusing for end users - probably should have some text saying ISP support staff only
Is there a setting in the Smartmodem that I can apply on the router to enable specific devices to remain fully accessible to other devices on my LAN, but blocked from communicating in any way (inwards or outwards) with the internet? So basically lock them to talking to only the 192.168.1.x range of IP addresses.
The forums (e.g. r/Asustor) are awash with reports of a rash of ransomware attacks hitting Asustor NASes, the cause and attack vector for which is currently unconfirmed. Both my NASes are Asustor ones. I want to keep using them. But until the weakness that is allowing the attacks is identified and patched, I would like to change my router settings (if possible) to isolate them from the internet.
Assign static addresses and don't assign a gateway.

Thanks for trying to help, but I'm afraid I don't understand that advice. (I'm not really an IT guy, just an amateur tinkerer trying to keep the family system running).
I know what a static IP address is, and both the NASes already have static IP addresses assigned so that their mapping to my Jellyfin Server (a separate box) works persistently.
I have narrowed it down that, at a bare minimum I only need two devices on my LAN to be able to talk to the NAS boxes - my desktop box (which is how I manage them and put files on them etc), and my Jellyfin box (read only, to stream the media).
If necessary I can give both of them static IP addresses. Is it possible, and if so how, can I tell the Smartmodem to let those two IP addressess (and ONLY those two IP addresses) communicate with the NAS IP addresses?
Or, failing that, is it possible, and if so, how, to tell the smartmodem not to allow any internet connectivity to the two NAS IP addresses?
If you omit the gateway address from the devices static assignment then it isn't possible for the device to communicate with the Internet. The three parts to the static address are the IP address, subnet mask and gateway address. You simply omit the gateway address.
Note: The gateway address tells the device how to get to the Internet, i.e., through the router.

OK. But can you tell me *how* to do this. I have gone into the static IP assignment screen for the device, and don't see anywhere to set/delete a gateway?

OK, so that's not what I'm after at all, and doesn't answer the question I asked.
What you have shown me is a setting on the NAS. The issue is that the NASes are being compromised through an as yet unknown means, so I don't currently trust the NAS OS to block this.
What I want to do is, as per my original question. Tell the Spark smartmodem not to allow any internet communication between specified IP addresses and the internet whatsoever, but allow them to continue to connect to devices on the local network (192.168.1.1-253).
I'm not looking for how to fiddle with settings on the NAS. On the forums people have already tried that, and it reportedly isn't working.
Removing the gateway definitely works as makes it completely impossible for the NAS to communicate with Internet. It is the obvious and keep it very simple solution. Good luck fiddling with your router.
Note: Your router acts as a dumb switch in respect to communication between devices on your local area network.
