My understanding is that courierpost are able to deliver to PO boxes. Although that won't help if you have already packaged and sealed the item in a courier bag for a different company. And you were just waiting to get the buyers delivery address to write on the package.

I generally only want things delivered to my PO Box as people use so many random trash courier companies that will just leave things sitting ontop of the mailbox at the side of the road.

Even courierpost have become useless now and do that. I am suprised that my bright blue EB games and orange mightyape bags remained when they were abandoned in the old milkbottle part of the letterbox recently.

These days I will just cancel orders if I place online orders and they will not send to PO Boxes. So if someone uses a courier company that cannot deliver to them then it really sucks.

I always get everything delivered to work, they can't just leave something somewhere like at home they have to drop it into the front desk. I never have anything sent to home any more.

It is a great positive that my situation is only the second of it's kind in 15 years. It is a positive reflection on the GZ community.

The Disputes Tribunal is not an option as the seller has refused multiple times to pass on his contact details. If he was genuine about resolving the issue then he would have passed on his details and I think this reflects on his character.

The original intention of the post here was to let the GZ community know the risks involved.

The delivery method was not specified in any of our correspondence however it is something I had no control over. The seller seems genuinely surprised that the parcel has gone missing with NZ Post. It is definitely the sellers responsibility to ensure the parcel is delivered.

Cheers, Matt.

Disputes tribunal can go to places to get their contact details if needed. I know trademe are all to happy to hand them over when needed.

I guess that is the difference between GZ and trademe. TM have address information (and in most cases Address Verified). In my case I only have an email address and bank account number. It will be interesting to see if that's enough. I'll give it a go with the disputes tribunal next week when I have some time.

Cheers, Matt.

Do you have the person's full name? If so, you could go to the trouble of locating them on the electoral roll. That would give you their home address.

My commiserations; I hope it gets resolved soon.

I went through the same thoughts a couple of weeks back, when I purchased an iPad through GZ from another GZ member. The trade went through with no problems, but I did hold off transferring the money to the seller until I'd asked and received full contact details. This was on the very basis that I had no fall-back information if something did go wrong, unlike a TM sale where at least the site has this information.

Ive done many trades on GZ and have never had an issues either. I have been reasonable and in cooperation with Matt and have refunded more that half the value of the item, Im still waiting for my refund from NZ post, which is going to a maximum of $250. The item is valued $599 on the retail receipt, if they refund me more i am more than happy to refund Matt. He did not request for tracking only if the shipping was included. I will now know not to send anything without tracking, even though i have had never had any issue with NZ post.

To be honest mistakes happen and it is a lesson for everyone involved. Sucks it has happened and has left people out of pocket however.

If you purchased something, and it never turned up, you'd expect a full refund.
This is no different, except in this case you're the seller.
The risk of shipping is yours unless you have proof that the receiving party took responsibility for it.

You owe the man the full purchase price, end of story.

Good on you owning up here. I'm sure people will be polite.

The shipping choice was wholly your responsibility, because the purchaser did not request any particular shipping option.  They rightly expected you to ensure proper delivery or a refund.

You have this incorrect belief that somehow the purchaser has to take financial loss , which explains your actions and your assertions that you think you're acting reasonably.

I'm pretty sure that if this ends up in the disputes tribunal you'll be found in the wrong.  You should at least give the purchaser this option, or even agree to go halves with the loss, to avoid the tribunal .

I'm sympathetic with both of you though. The real culprit here seems to be NZ post, who use the carriage of goods act to limit liability.

Sorry you owe him the refund. If you ordered something and does not turn up then you would expect a full refund. Does not matter that the retail is $599 you offered it for $400 he purchased it never turned up so you have to refund.

Also when you send something nzpost there are T&C's outlining max insurance payments and if it is over $250 then you need to send via courier. You are the one that has a contract with nzpost not the buyer. The buyer has a sales contract with you. You have not supplied the S3 so you must return the his funds.

Seems to me you know you are in the wrong by not even supplying your full name and address so he can serve court papers on you.

It feels to me that some here get great pleasure in being as direct and abrupt as possible. I don't feel it's necessary, or in the spirit of the community. It's quite possible to let someone know they made a mistake and that they are responsible, without using such a harsh tone.

People make mistakes, I don't think piling on helps either party in any way.
