Just received an "alert" today:

Vodafone launches new media channel and announces partnership

In a New Zealand first, Vodafone is changing the way information reaches consumers, launching mobile advertising on the Vodafone Live! portal on Friday 15 February.

This new media channel will enable brands to reach more people in a personalised, targeted and immediate way.

To enable the onselling of mobile advertising space, Vodafone has formed an exclusive partnership with a global mobile media sales agency network, also to be announced on Friday.

Russell Stanners, CEO Vodafone, will be available for media interviews.

The launch is part of The Hyperfactory’s Movable Feast mobile marketing and media workshop

I asked Paul if this means a cheaper or even free mobile TV (this is a stupid name, it should be "mobile clips"), and of course the answer was not a "Yes".

Slower Vodafone live! anyone?

You would think they would sought out the website/billing issues mentioned elsewhere on Geekzone before launching further services.

i was hugely let down by mobile tv. it only seemed to work half the time, was very average quality and like freitasm said they're "clips" not tv. and a lot of the clips (such as mtv)  are so old i saw them when new zealand still had a free mtv channel. what they need to do is set mobiles up to stream normal nz tv (meaing tv1, tv2 and tv3), i woould pay for that. they also definately need to do something about their billing, its a struggle to find a vodafone customer these days that hasn't had a problem at some point with their billing system.

Here's the release for you. Mauricio, the reason why the answer wasn't YES or NO is because it's not up to Vodafone, it's entirely up to the content provider. If they want to give away content for free if a customer watches an ad then it's a YES. If they want to put banner ads around some paid content then no, it's not free.

Mobile advertising has arrived

In a New Zealand first, Vodafone New Zealand is changing the way information reaches consumers, launching mobile advertising on the Vodafone live! portal.

This new media channel will sit alongside print and broadcast advertising, mail catalogues and online advertising, enabling brands to reach customers in a more targeted and immediate way.

Vodafone’s General Manager of Products and Services, Kursten Shalfoon said that mobile advertising was challenging traditional media, creating an innovative way for brands to reach their audience.

“The model for mobile advertising is all about targeting customers on a very individual and personal basis. It’s similar to online advertising in that companies can target marketing campaigns based on which sites consumers access,” he said.

“However, the click through rate for mobile advertising is between 3% and 7%, which is well above that for web advertising which sits at just 1%.

“Mobile advertising is all about the individual. Marketing can be better targeted, customers can receive the information they want without having to wade through advertisements that don’t interest them.“

Vodafone has signed an exclusive agreement with Snakk Media to sell mobile advertising space on the Vodafone live! portal.

Snakk Media, a sister brand to The Hyperfactory, is a global mobile media sales agency network that specialises in packaging and representing mobile media advertising opportunities.

“There are more mobiles than PCs worldwide and locally some 10 million page impressions are made on the Vodafone live!  portal every month.” Shalfoon said.

“Vodafone live! already targets a wide-reaching audience, and is becoming a richer tool in terms of content offerings. Customers can watch TV with Sky Mobile TV,  watch You Tube and access Wikipedia and advertising on these pages will further enhance the value of reaching a selected audience,”

simon14: Any word on who the global mobile media sales agency network is?

Global mobile media sales network launches in New Zealand
Snakk Media chosen as launch partner for mobile advertising on Vodafone Live!

Auckland, 15 February 2008 – Snakk Media – a global mobile media sales network – today announces it has officially launched in New Zealand in an exclusive partnership with Vodafone.

Through this exclusive partnership, Snakk Media will enable brands to reach more than more than 2 million content-hungry New Zealanders through New Zealand’s largest and most compelling interactive mobile destination – Vodafone Live!.

The mobile advertising market is expected to grow exponentially over the next several years and
is expected to be worth more than US$16 billion by 2011 worldwide*. In New Zealand, the mobile channel has grown by more than 300% per annum since 2000 and has become an integral part of many brands’ marketing mix.

Snakk Media Director Geoff Ross says, “In today’s crowded world, it’s increasingly challenging for brands to get in front of today’s consumers. Brands naturally want to exist where their target audience is – and their target audience is spending more and more of their day looking, listening and learning with their mobile phone. This trend will only continue, especially as new handsets such as the iPhone become widespread.

“Snakk Media is the first media sales agency of its kind to specialise in putting companies’ brands in hand. Mobile media can target and stimulate an audience in new ways and at new times of the day,” he says.

“There is one absolute trend taking place in popular culture, and this is the growth and usage of mobile. I’m rapt to be part of it.”

Darnell Dixon, Snakk Media Director of Sales, adds, “The launch of mobile advertising is a huge development for New Zealand.

“Traditionally New Zealand has led the way in interactive mobile advertising and marketing with SMS, MMS, Bluetooth and the like. However, advertising on Vodafone Live! offers a whole new opportunity for brands to connect with audiences via the most personalised digital media,” she says.

“It’s the power of ‘beyond the banner’, what takes place after a consumer clicks. The mobile destination entices further interaction – be this to view product information, enter a competition, download content, browse a gallery or click to call a contact centre or brand representative,” Darnell adds.

“We have been doing fantastic work connecting brands and consumers using the mobile internet and 3G in offshore markets and are elated that we are able to now unlock this experience for New Zealand audiences. Snakk Media is delighted to be Vodafone’s exclusive partner in the launch of this new advertising frontier.”
