Right. Been with Vodafone for the last 6 months. Swapped due to slightly better value on data at the time. 3.5GB's for $39 instead of $49 with 2Degrees. Things have been fine for the first few months. LTE throughput was good, texts and calls going through. Then roughly 2 months ago things went down hill. Texts stopped being reliable. And my girlfriend who is on the same type of plan (Flexi Prepay) also started having issues receiving texts and messages over LTE weren't getting through like they used to either.

Then I started receiving near daily spam texts from Vodafone.

I have called. Asked to opt out but I still receive the same texts over and over. Block the number, a week later it's coming from another number. Can't make it stop. Even tried going in in person. They couldn't help.

Funny enough, until recently, Vodafones website said any good company will stop sending advertisements if you reply with "STOP" and still recommend replying "STOP" to stop unsolicited text messages.

But it keeps going. A few weeks ago, I noticed a huge drop in data throughput. Where I would expect 30mb+, I'm getting 1 +/-0.5

A week ago, My phone stopped receiving calls and texts all together. Swapped sim from an Oppo A39 to a Samsung Note 5. Same issue. Go in to my local store, and they swap the sim. Quick enough service. I'll give them that. text messages flooded in and calls worked again. For 3 days then it went back to it's intermittent services as usual.

Then there was today.

So as mentioned n a previous thread, Vodafone has "Upgraded" their flexi data plans offering 4GB and reducing the cost of other data amounts. Great right?

Except for how they handled the rollover to the new plans. So I'm currently in between semesters for uni. I am a heavy data user but currently short on income. I managed to save roughly 3.5GB's of data rollover for days where I spend 2 hours+ on public transport plus I do app development and need data for that. I then dropped my plan down to 750MB's and expected to just eat into the rollover plus the extra 750MB's.

Saves me money at only $19 instead of the $39 I usually pay. I knew I needed to top up soon. I checked yesterday that everything was fine. I topped up the $20 I need to keep my data and I was still on the 750MB data plan. Woke up to a text today saying my plan was on hold. Meaning rollover did not go through, my data is gone and something went wrong. Checked my plan and I saw this.

So, My plan that was $19 a month for 750MB's of 50 minutes calling and unlimited texts plus rollover data has turned into $25, 1.5GB's of data, 50 minutes calling and unlimited texts but without my saved rollover.

I might be wrong but surely this is one giant dick move. They changed my plan with no warning. Of which would be ok if they had given me the new price for the plan that they swapped me to. Would I be writing here if I had been given double the data for the same price without issue? Nope but what has happened here is I was on Plan A. Plan A has been discontinued without any direct contact. But Plan B v2 is the same price and gives the user more for their money. Great. But they put the user on Plan B V1 which costs more than the user was paying for less value than what they offer.

I'm sorry Vodafone but this is disgusting behavior. Changing what you charge to a user so they they have to pay more down the track to get what they had already payed for is anti consumer behavior. I tried calling this morning but was hung up on without a word so here is what I have been dealing with with the second largest telecommunications company in this country.

I would love to hear from a representative if there is one still watching this forum because I'm getting no where with the customer support line.

@mikehales best you pass this over to MTE for further investigation and replying stop does not work on marketing SMS

If the SMS sending issue follows you to many locations then you might need to try a hard reset of handset

Sounds messy, how can I help.

Quick question - when you switched plans did you buy it immediately or leave it to change at the end of the month?

The issue happens on both a non branded (Unlocked) and an unlocked Telecom device with the SMS messages.

@MikeHales I left it to switch at the end of the month. I never hit buy now as that removes my rollover data

I suggest try SIM in another handset and see if same issue happens, Not all networks are the same and using another carriers handset can cause issues

I have been using 'non Vodafone' iOS handsets for about 8+ years and haven't struck any issues like this.

I do receive the random messages, but usually just ignore them.

I guess I'm just apathetic.

That maybe the case for sure but in this case it could be impacting SMS

@Linux, The A39 is a generic device that supports all frequencies for all carriers in NZ. The Note 5 I can flash a generic rom on it since it's just a Note 5 with Spark branding and bloatware but otherwise the device is just a normal Note 5.

It's not related to the supported bands of the " handset " and this is something Joe Average does not understand, You have features in the software that are hidden that will be enabled or disabled for certain networks and how they are setup

If I was you jump onto the Sam mobile site and download Odin and the VodafoneNZ firmware and flash it

It's small things like band scanning when handset is powered up the Spark network main 3G band is 850Mhz and Vodafone 900Mhz and then 4G CA and different bands used

Then you have things like Fast fast dormancy VodafoneNZ support and Spark and 2D may not support them so the feature is disabled on a Spark handset

Simply supporting the correct frequencies does not mean a phone will automatically work optimally on any network.

Why not? It should. Not everyone want to receive promotional messages and have the right to say so.

And if the Telco refuses to stop then it might be time to have word with whatever part of Internal Affairs deals with anti-spam complaints.

You shouldn't have to put up with ads in order to use a service that you are paying for.
