I was going to buy a 3g phone anyway but if i signed up to a Choose 60 24 month plan, i got $200 off the 3g phone. The cancellation fee for my You Choose contract is $200, so i figured i may as well test out You Choose for a while and if i dont like it, i can just cancel my contract and in the end, i would have just paid the normal price for my phone that i would have normally paid in the first place - so really, to me, im not stuck into a contract cuz i still got my $200 here i was going to spend on my phone which i can use to pay the cancellation fee :)

Hehe, i switched from open plan Get200 to You Choose 20 on 24 months contract... was debating on the contract too but in the end, it worked out cheaper and I am going to stick with Vodafone anyway regardless... so the decision was "Why not!" when i can save more and i hardly made calls and few occasion i may used up all 100 txt for txting 027/025/021/029/International... and sometimes i pay slightly more than predicted but that's to be expected.

In the end, I'd saved a lot from You Choose 20, than staying with Get200 when i don't make calls at night, or text 021/029 all the time. :-)

I'm happy where i am right now and work great for me :-D

Shame, TCL doesn't do You Choose plans otherwise, would be gladly consolidate all my bills with single bill. :-(

I don't really have any need for mobility except for odd occassions when I'm out of town (usually a few days every three months), so I tend to switch to a higher data plan whenever I'm intending to use mobile data, and then switch back before the beginning of the next billing cycle. I'm going down to Christchurch for a few days in mid July, so I've just switched to the 1Gb plan, but will switch back to the 3Mb plan when I get home.

I would seriously consider Vodafone's offering as an permanent alternative to Woosh if the data cap were 2Gb and the speed were at least 1Mbps. My Woosh contract expires in October, so I'll be watching Vodafone's HSDPA rollout with interest.

True - but at least with EVDO Rev0 you still get good data speeds and latency. Pity about that UMTS.....

So does that mean that outside of HSDPA coverage I drop back to GPRS? Man that is painful. Like going from driving a Lada to riding a bicycle.

UMTS is so slow. HSDPA is only catch up to Rel 0. Rev A gives me a very real alternative to ditching my DSL when it comes out here.

Ive used UMTS data enough to know that $49 for near dialup speeds is not a very good deal.

Nice analogy but you give too much credit to HSDPA when referring to it as a Lada.

I use it once or twice a week and average 150-220 and when compared to 700-800 on Telecom for the same price i know which i would pick. Both have the same signal strength.

I use UMTSD on my Jasjar, and CDMA EVDO on my Apache. I usually have both on me.

The Jasjar is great for Direct Push Email (now on the TNZ Apache as well!) and it doesn't need to be super fast for this. But when I want to reply to something on-line, I get the Apache and use it. Loading pages, etc is much faster.

But it is as usable on UMTS, after all what's the 1 or 2 seconds difference when loading a page, really?

The bad thing is no 3G UMTS roaming to the USA, and no CDMA EVDO roaming to the USA. Even if there was, with $30/MB... Pfff..
