JonC: Mauricio,
Surely the MS automatic update could have run this utility for me???

I think so

Indeed we could and normally do, however given the change in DST (ie: changing one week earlier, extending by two weeks etc) it's difficult to know if our customers manually move them to be proactive or not etc. I'm guessing if our customers manually moved them to be proactive, then we did it again, we'd face customer satisfaction issues - hence why we have provided two tools for the job - Tzmove (Client side tool) and the Exchange tool for Server side.

Still haven't found a working solution for my good ol' WM2k3 HP iPaq... Not a major issue since I don't even check it hourly, but it's kinda annoying. The patch mentioned in another thread didn't work.

Back on topic, MS update worked perfectly on all three XP machines in my flat.

Hi Pang,

Can I just say.. as someone who is still dealing with large numbers of Win2k machines that MS may have covered XP and newer well but the support if you had something older was somewhat more limited and did cause some headaches.

In fairness Windows 2000 was deemed end of life some time ago. It's like mainframes - most companies I know work on a current less two releases for support/patches.

Not to mention that Windows 2003 is really good and excellent Smile

And with SMS, MOM, WSUS...hmm....so easy to manage !

Hi Nety,

Windows 2000 falls into Extended Hotfix Support as per http://www.microsoft.com/lifecycle. So customers always had the choice to purchase the DST hotfix package (which entitles you to ALL DST updates for a 1 yr period) and deploy via your choice of patching tools, or via Group Policy/logon Script. The same thing could have also been achieved with the registry key we supplied. I guess the assumption here is that an enterprise patch deployment tool is in place such as SMS/Altiris etc, however you could also achieve the same thing via a logon script. There was guidance supplied in version 1 of our guidance document that was posted to ms.com - available by going to http://www.microsoft.co.nz/timezone.

How much confidence should we have in Microsoft's Timezone info. and hence implementation?

Microsoft's detailed KB article How to address the daylight saving time changes in 2007 by using the Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931667  of 5 Sep 07 states:
"... Extended DST periods by country
The following table lists the upcoming extended DST periods by country or region and date.
Country/Region            Under the old law, DST ended on:          Under the new law, DST will end on:
...
New Zealand                Sunday, October 7, 2007 at 3:00 A.M.    Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 3:00 A.M." [my emphasis].

Great spotting - In terms of confidence in tools - a whole heap as I've been monitoring our inbound calls for Personal/Professional and Premier Support in NZ, and the call volumes in terms DST support have been very low to say the least. In terms of confidence in the accuracy of the information published in that table, a little less :-) I have pinged the approrpriate people to have this addressed.

Yeah, that's the patch I was referring to. Didn't do anything. For reference, it's an iPaq RX3715. Might be something wrong with my software though, because the HP-supplied patch for adding A2DP support never worked either...

Edit: Disregard that, I re-read the instructions and apparently I forgot to set the clock to when DST switches over. Works fine now.
