Just realised the zip file was actually the wrong version. Geez. I'm not doing this very well tonight. The newer driver has a setup.exe Will tell what results that gives. And then i will try the Swap file.

Ah. I see what you mean by this. I updated the drivers to the latest one, no good. Still stuttering. But i will try the swap file tomorrow, by defragmenting the entire system and increase the swap file to 512mb. Will post tomorrow what the results are.

Try going with a swap file that is triple the amount of RAM, or even 4 times. i.e. 1024MB. If you have enough space available on your hard drive, it's usually preferable to have a larger swap file when you have that little amount of RAM in the first place.

I assume you have also tried the official drivers from the official website?

As you can see below, there are three different versions to try.

Another random question: Do you have any codec packs installed at all?

Tomorrow i will try and set the swap file to 4 times to amount. I'm pretty sure i have at least 1gb left. If not, i'll delete some stuff before i defragment. The driver i got was the first one listed, as it was the most current driver (2009) And was for windows xp. Not x64 as well. As for the audio codecs, i'm not actually too sure on that, i don't think i do. Other than asio codecs. But i never use them unless i am doing recording for musical items etc. I haven't used it with my sound card at all. Or my knowledge of it either. I find it weird that onboard audio works fine but the sound card doesn't. The onboard doesn't stutter at all even under some stress.

Installed the exact same card in an old AMD Sempron a while back. No problems at all. Don't remember the RAM.

I use this in preference over windows defrag: http://www.mydefrag.com.

(Excellent program, used to be open source but no longer, still free)

Maybe it is driver related then.
ASIO is a driver protocol, not a codec. Usually used for low latency recording and such.
There is usually a latency selection panel somewhere when dealing with ASIO drivers, but it's actually unlikely to be what's causing the issue because ASIO drivers are usually only utilised when recording/playback in an audio editing application anyway.

The fact that you can play audio without an issue on the on-board audio card does suggest driver issues with the other card.

If all else fails, make a complete backup, and then do a fresh Windows XP install.

I will try with the defragment, swap file etc and see what happens with that. If it works or not. If it doesn't. I might actually do a clean install as suggested and NOT install my onboard audio. But everything else i need for the pc to operate and work properly. I will backup my files as needed if i have to do a clean install. But after saying that it could be a driver issue, i've updated and installed a newer driver and nothing. Still the stutteering. It requires 32mb of ram, and 100mb hard drive. Doesn't suggest anything else. I just hope that it isn't anything to do with the pc itself. As in hardware etc. Could it be that the PSU isn't powerful enough? It doesn't say anything about it on the box but my psu is 218 watts i think. From when i read on the psu in the case. Don't know if that could be an issue? I highly doubt it would be. But i will try as suggested and post what my results are tomorrow, if no success i will try a clean install without my onboard drivers. And give that a go. Hope it works. Fingers crossed. Has your hard drive dropped down to PIO mode?
From memory it should be set to DMA mode but can change due to drive issues.
I'm pretty sure this is what I have had in the past affecting sound on my XP machine.

Hi. I have onboard audio turned off in bios. Also there is hardly any hard disk activity going while i play music etc. Also i had checked about the PIO and DMA but it is on DMA mode etc.

+1. Completely forgot about the PIO mode issue. I would definitely check that. Good thinking ZollyMonsta.

I personally don't remember ever having an issue with PIO mode defaulting on a hard drive, but it always used to keep defaulting to PIO mode on one of my IDE CD drives in an old XP rig.

JarrodT: Are you having any mouse stuttering issues as well?

I had a similar card to this a couple years back and had the exact same issue. Sent it back and got a refund.
Nothing I tried helped fix the issue... Id try a different branded card.

I don't hava any stuttering at all with the mouse. So should i try and get a refund or swap for a different card? Any suggestions within around 60- 80 dollars worth. NZD just incase as well. I had got it from Dragon Pc Christchurch. Thank you xpd. If it is the exact same issue and you did try things to fix it, then i'm sure this could be the same as what you had. I'll check out on the site about the different cards to get etc..

Sweet. I'll get a refund with it and order this one. I was actually just looking at it before. I know Asus is quite a good brand as well, my sister has an asus laptop and is really good. But that isn't the point. I'll get it refunded and then buy the Asus Xonar DG. I will post what happens with it. Hopefully it works when i get it and install it. It will probably be a few days until i am able to try it and use it. I'll keep in touch with it though.
