Actually it is still doing it. It didn't do it last night though. Strange it is doing it again. Thought i had fixed the issue. Obviously not as easy as that. The console thing, is the driver/program that came with the Sound card. When i downloaded the newest drivers, also on the cd too. LIke giving you options for surround sound etc.

Personally, I tend to install just the drivers without the control program. But for XP I'm not sure if Windows can do 5.1 socket assignment without the control program? The card I installed was just for simple stereo speakers.

Also running the program and disabling drivers while in the device manager and resetting the program. Once the red and yellow bars have gone it means it has solved the issue and can only see green bars. Etc. I will try this program and see what success i have (If any) and will post if i have found the problem. Also i just got rid of my wireless usb drivers, because some people have had problems with it. I don't normally use wireless at all. Not a problem for me, i mainly use ethernet. **Ahh. I see. But back to my problem, i'm still getting it even to the second i'm writing this. Really annoying now. I will try the DPC Latency tool and disable devices in device manager and will post if i have any success.

It turns out your chipset is known for problems of this nature.

There is a patch (developed independently) to address some of the issues.

This is a link to the latest version of the patch - which contains experimental code.

There are also earlier versions of the patch available (you will need to search for them) which might be more stable.

The patch (the latest one anyway) addresses so many different issues I would be uncomfortable about installing it unless I tried everything else first and had a backup on hand.

Interested to see the dpc results, no hurry.

I did the DPC testing, absolutely nothing. I disabled every driver i could. And it still stuttered and went red + yellow. I think i disabled the monitor as i currently have a black screen. (Using another pc in the house at the moment) Although now i am not sure how to get the screen back to being able to view a picture. Damnit. Oncew i get that working, i will try with the chipset update(s) I'll try to search for earlier versions of the chipset and install/update it. And see what that does.

For the black screen try a safe mode boot (and remove display drivers if needed) then reboot. [drivers will be detected automatically]

The patch could be messy. At least to start with, it would be a lot safer to experiment with the PCI latency settings in preference to applying a patch.

After you roll back your other changes, try setting the CMedia device to 64 and then 128.

Don't forget to save the settings, then restart the tool to check that you have saved the settings.

i've actually got this error ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. I know how to fix it, but i need to get into my hard drive on that computer to get the installation .iso off it. After i've done that and restored it, can't get into safe mode or last known good settings etc. But i will use a program called ubuntu to get into windows and get the file and then restore it. Pain in the butt. And then i will try the latency setting change. will post again. weither success of failure.

Oh and the red went into around 80000 + or- a rew thousand. That was at max.

Been quiet for a while. I managed to do a format and clean install. No success. Doesn't help one bit. I tried the PCI Latency tool. Doesn't do anything at all. Changed it to 32, 64, 128 even 255. Nothing at all. Still got the problem. Back to using onboard audio now, way too annoying to try listen to music and play games etc.

My feeling is you may need to optimise the latency ratios between some of those devices depending on function. That is likely to be a time consuming (but educational) task of research and experiment.

Now may be a good time to try the patch - but he has a note that it will not install on XPSP2 and later so there will be some serous technical challenges there as well.

Unless you happen to have a pre-SP2 version of XP and can apply SP3 later...
