Why does the virtual keyboard only appear automatically when I click on a text box some of the time?

wow thanks. keep these things coming! 5 years ago when my life was without too many kids i could care about tweaking everything till it breaks and then restoring begrudgingly etc ... nowadays i use an iphone and don't touch my windows 8/10. so i wouldn't have found this out today.

and agree with mauricio ... WHY TWO SETTINGS INTERFACE!!! do we all have to have split personalities?

because this "feature" is not tweakable from the control panel!

If this is true then that is reason enough to remove Windows 10 and go back to earlier version or even Linux. I dont want my computer to be used as a bot to feed out updates to others. Just not right at all. I can only hope its not true.

I liked how in Windows 8.1 one could click the Network icon and click CONNECT to a VPN right from there. I dislike how now you have the VPN list but if you click on any it will open the Network and Internet Settings page and then you can click from there.

I use the VPN list quite a few times a day, connecting to Geekzone servers over our SSL VPN and so on.

No, it doesn’t, it doesn’t need to. The recovery process on Windows 10 reconstructs the OS from the \windows\winsxs folder structure, not from a recovery image. In fact, the recovery environment doesn’t support recovery images.

I'm interested too, the Acer I have here has Windows 8.1 recovery partitions, so I could just remove them all - there are a few primary partitions so which one to remove is the question.

I agree. Connecting and disconnecting from VPNs is much more complicated and takes more clicks than it did on W7. Batch files can solve it, but it would be nice if clicking the VPN icon let you connect or disconnect, rather than taking you to the network settings app.

These features and associated concerns (see also http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jul/31/windows-10-microsoft-faces-criticism-over-privacy-default-settings and an excellent post on Reddit on how to disable data logging - https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3f38ed/guide_how_to_disable_data_logging_in_w10/) have tipped me over the edge and I have now turned off my Windows HTPC and will see how we go without it. I have over time moved most of the various media functions it "served" to my iMac and the only one I haven't yet moved is Kodi, but that has largely been replaced by iTunes/ATV combination.

I understand that nowadays it is all about the value-exchange and how much of your privacy you are willing to give up in order to get value in return. I am more than happy with that exchange in say Facebook, Twitter or Instagram but I do think Windows is offering less and less in return for a higher exchange of privacy. Some of the default privacy-related settings in Windows 10 are pretty aggressive in sending data to Microsoft. I imagine 80% of consumer users won't even know how to change these or even know about them.

Time to see if I can completely live without Windows!

I had an issue getting the laptop fingerprint reader to work natively without 3rd party software. Turns out that the driver needed to be Windows Biometric Framework(WBF) compatible. In the end I had to google for a driver from a different laptop manufacturer that was WBF compatible to get the reader to be picked up by Windows. It was worth it, as now fingerprint login works perfectly without third party software getting in the way.

Might be useful if anyone else is having issues.
