I've done both upgrades and clean installs on the same hardware (two notebooks and a tablet) and also was running the technical preview. Clean certainly seems to be less problematic. Upgrades do seem to work surprisingly well though. Better than previous Windows upgrades. Not been keen enough to run upgrades on my primary desktop or notebook yet though!

surfisup1000: Why did they dump the windows photo viewer in Win10?

The replacement 'Photo' app is not good for my purposes, as it has a bunch of unnecessary functions (albums/collections/settings) when all I want is simple photo viewing. You cannot even use the arrow keys to move to the next photo in the folder containing the photo you clicked. It is not easy to bring back the win photo viewer either, you need to do some system tweaks from what i get.

Windows needs a 'quick' windows photo viewer, why bother disabling? -- if we want a photo management application then I can just use windows live photo (from the essentials pack).

Overall, I think win 10 is 'almost' as functionally good as win7. The start menu is still inferior to win7, although not so bad as win8. Some things are worse than windows 7, some things are better.

I like the right click in the lower left corner to get into control panel/cmd/device mgr etc.

It must be rather frustrating for microsoft people given they haven't improved on windows 7. Rather they have gone backward (win8), then forward (win10) , and largely ended up back to where they started - and spent a lot of money to go nowhere.

itxtme: Out of interest how many of you are doing clean Windows installs? I get the feeling that problems are more frequent on upgrades (moving files etc. in) than a clean install. I did a clean one and had no issues.

As with anything software related, upgrading is usually always more problematic than a clean install. At least when it comes to software issues.

I did an upgrade. Thought I'd do a clean install later on if I liked it. Laptop's been due for a clean OS for some time now.

My laptop just froze solid while I was typing a message here. No response to anything. I finally had to hit the power button. Don't know if Win 10 is to blame but this has never happened before.

I was writing to ask for help with yet another issue that popped up. Suddenly url hyperlinks have stopped working. If I click on a link in my email program or word processor or anywhere else nothing happens. This always worked fine until it stopped working a short time ago. I suspect it is probably some setting I changed but I am getting pretty tired from all this so if anyone has a suggestion I would be glad to hear it. I tried installing two different browsers and making sure they were set as default, but the links still don't work. They were working earlier today. I was changing privacy settings earlier, turning off everything I could. That might be related.

The problem with WiFi Settings closing when forgetting WiFi SSIDs seems to be gone with today's update. And look what I found (only on my newest laptop though, not the old ones - probably related to the adapter):

At work the reponse we've had from our Piolt users Windows 10 has been mostly that they love it. We're currently piolting it on 70 devices (mix of desktops, laptops & tablets).
The biggest bit of feedback we're getting is from the users who have Toughpads as their main devices and how well continuum is working for them and making it easier by having a full desktop when they dock their tablets but keeping the full screen touch experience when they're away from their desk out of site (which is most of the day).

If all goes to plan we will have our production image ready to deploy by late this year with the plan of having Windows 7 removed from our enviroment by mid next year (We currently run a mix of 7,8.0 & 8.1).

I finally solved what I hope is the last of my set-up issues so I can actually start using this thing. The problem with the hyperlinks was caused by Windows not properly uninstalling a browser program. One part of it said the program was gone, but other parts thought it was still there so the hyperlinks were being directed to a dead end. I had to reinstall and uninstall the program several times in different locations to finally clear things up.

I installed it on two HP Probooks as upgrade from Windows 7. It is truely a backward step, and there are serious concerns with regard to the information going out. Eg the Windows Updates allowed to go to/from other PC's on the internet. What is that really mean ? Also not being able to turn off updates. In my business, with 5 or 6 laptops, out on site and connect up over expensive satellite or mobile data, the last thing I need is to have updates going on just before an event is set to kickoff.

The plain white title bars make it hard to spot the active window, and you can't see the line between the title and the menu, so often grab the wrong part with the mouse when moving windows around.

One of the HP Probooks had video compatibility issue and the other didn't. They are only a model apart.

I tested speed between Windows 7 64bit and Windows 10 64bit. Simple tasks, such as startup, login, run a couple of apps and shutdown. Windows 10 generally took 30% longer.

One of the HP Probooks touch pad wasn't scrolling up and down, and the other was. This was a setting required in the control panel to resolve, but I can't help but wonder why ?

MyPC and Explorer launch in different places on the screen. MS have accepted this as a fault.

I Browsed through Event Viewer, and I was shocked at the large number of errors. Very slow to load as well. One I noticed was the Security Audits. There was the odd failure, followed by about 20 Success in the following second. Also various other DNS errors, System writer access denied.

After doing some stuff online, the next time I went to login it failed. I found that as I had logged in to the microsoft site with my online login, this had created a login with that email and password on this laptop, without my knowledge, and made it the default. I changed the login back to my local PC one (Start, Settings, Accounts), and it still worked. I felt disappointed that significant authorisation on my laptop was changed without my knowledge.

On both laptops, after upgrade they would not shutdown to power off state. I could select it, and the screen would go off, but the lights were still on. (power, wifi etc). After some searching on Google, I found a recommendation to disable fast startup. It seems to be a compatibility issue. After doing this, I was able to shutdown.

I have rolled back to Windows 7. It is the best OS yet.

I think I would summarise, that Microsoft need to think about people in business, doing work etc, and stop trying to force stuff on to people who are using the computer as a tool. Life isn't all a game, and things shouldn't go backwards or become more difficult.

Thanks, but doesn't work as expected.

You can get it working for TIF files only.

You need to do a registry hack to allow for jpg and other gfx formats.
