nakedmolerat: @Geektastic Are you planning to move back to the UK?

Nope. NZ peso trapped us here long ago, even if we wanted to go.

Geektastic:

SJB:

Here's an interesting possibility

Hilary Clinton - US President

Theresa May - British Prime minister

Angela Merkel - German Chancellor

Helen Clarke - Head of the UN

Not a man to be seen anywhere.

Please no. Anything but that.

I hope you're not a 'hermaphobic'.

This vote ain't like changing to a different government in a general election. The implications (both positive and negative as they may be) won't fully be played out for many years to come. I don't think anyone has a full grasp of all the unintended consequences that will come about over the next decade and well beyond. We live in interesting times indeed.

I read that Trump, who supported leave, took the credit. As he supported leave, it encouraged Obama to support remain, so many voted against Obama just to make a point.

Geez.

I find it disturbing how some Brits seem to be taking this vote as a licence for public expressions of racism and xenophobia.

I think they didn't know leave for Leave EU, maybe the propaganda made them think they were voting for "leave Britain"

MikeB4:

One last thing from me and I am out.

You expound human rights etc yet your post here are discriminatory against many people's. Ageism and racism are painted with the same brush.

Stop claiming the moral high ground when you are posting comment filled with prejudice and insult to those of differing socio economic back grounds or age.

Yawn. MikeB4 with his usual "One last line from me" thing. If you haven't the guts or the capability to stand by what you say and debate it, save the moral high-horsing. Again, here's a bit of truth: everything I said regarding the Brexit electorate being broadly speaking (one has to look after those who just insist on deliberately misconstruing others' arguments) the poorly educated/uneducated, the old, people with a tendency to repudiate international cooperation/institutions is completely borne out by Lord Ashcroft's polling. For heaven's sake, you can't bend the truth just because you dislike it.

Now, none of the means that EVERY old and/or uneducated person (by way of example) is a horrible human being. Nor does it mean that every person of the characteristics described previous who voted for Brexit did so for horrible reasons; nor does it mean that every person of the previously described characteristics manifest the same kind of attitudes as that of the typical Brexiter revealed by the polls.

So please save your lectures on human rights law. The likes of the ICCPR and our Human Rights Act prevents discrimination based solely on enumerated factors such as age. I don't dislike anyone who is old. The kind of commentary I have been making is consistently being made in reputable media such as the Guardian, albeit in softer language to look after the fragile feelings of people who want to deny that, for example, people who don't even finish high school are just plain uneducated.

So next time you feel a need to make defamatory assertions, perhaps pause a bit before writing?

I didn't finish high school but I am certainly not uneducated. As per my earlier post, ease up on the sweeping generalisations. You are very quick to pass judgement on things you have no knowledge of.

Of course I have no knowledge about YOU. No one is denying this, so please save it with the strawman.

Speaking of Trump. Did you see that prank where a man pretending to be an employee of Trumpy's golf course was distributing golf balls with the swastika on them?

There is an open Trump topic for that discussion.

And that S word may well invoke an internet forum law. This is a longish thread and its heading towards 1

I'm in no way comparing Trump with that guy from Austria with the funny mustache.

I agree 1,000 fold. Sadly, it has been going on for some time, such is the level of frustration felt in many regions due to mass immigration. Mass of course being the key word. Hopefully Brexit will provide a much needed period of social readjustment, but it may take longer than one would hope. Frankly I feel sorry for all parties at what has happened and hope that some lessons will be learnt from this situation.

Unfortunately this seems to be a large part of what it's about and populist politicians are very good at capitalising in these sentiments.
