Re what the staff member said, remember folks, two wrongs don't make a right. If you feel threatened, call the police or at least contact security.

Anyway, not enough facts here, just speculation.

Irrespective of who's right or who's wrong, no company rep should ever speak to a customer in that manner.

To a point.  If the customer is being a complete douche then I'm all for a company or company rep drawing a line in the sand and telling them where to go.

Telling them where to go is not quite the same as saying "I will ***k you up".

Employees should be trained in handling difficult customers. Those words can only make a situation worse.

Whilst I have no time of the day for some of the OP’s views, the continuing and repeated allegation of one poster in particular that he was simply lying is quite uncalled for. Not a good look overall for more than the OP.

I have removed quiet a few replies from this thread. I don't think the words some people posted here should be in any way part of this community.

Even some of the remaining posts on this thread aren't exactly a glowing revelation about the character of the posters concerned. There's a point where all the repeated +1ing of posts that just keeps saying "There's more to this story!" just essentially becomes a subtle way of accusing the OP of fabrication or exaggerating. We also have one individual who seems to think it funny to joke about a potential incidence of violence/so called "fight time". The truly decent characters here were the owner of the site who valiantly tried to inject some decency back into the thread and those who emphasised that both the OP and the staff -- based on what has been described or alleged -- needed to have taken a higher road. Let's face facts: no one here is in any position to render any definitive verdicts as to what happened (although this didn't stop many trying). The only undeniable truths were spoken by a few selected people who rose above the fray.

Yeah seems like the point has been completely missed in this thread.

I guess I missed some of the more nasty posts here in response to me, but I didn't expect any smooth sailing when I opened up to an internet forum dominated by males. Certainly didn't expect to glean sympathy from any online forum activity. How's any sympathy going to help fix the issues anyway? Victim blaming is way more popular and fashionable. Nevertheless, I appreciate the few gentlemen who have provided me with robust, constructive advice. Special thanks also goes to the owner of the site for his attention to the thread.

There are a few issues I'd like to respond to:

Police

I did call the Police. Despite my pleas, the telephone operator scolded me to "just leave the store, the police doesn't have enough resources to attend to your matter. When you have been assaulted, then the police will come."

Original Store vs. This Store

In hindsight I probably should have gone to the store I bought it from. However it is interesting to note that since they refused to serve me in the first place, citing "you must go to your original store", then why did they go through the phone and the box after that? Which one is it? I must go to the original store? Or simply they are legally obligated to but are unwilling and actively seek to avoid their obligations because they don't foresee to derive a benefit? They were never going to consider a swap anyway, so why ransack through the whole contents of the phone and the box?

Returns

If I wanted to swap for a proper new replacement, very much in good faith, and they were unwilling. What are the chances they will give me store credit? Still, I have a little confidence that another store which is not festered by such nepotism, corruptness and last but not least, extreme lack of professionalism and accountability, will treat me more fairly.

"Racism"

In response to the racist accusations against me; I simply cannot fathom how I could be construed as racist. In fact, everything I've mentioned is conducive to openness, diversity and social harmony, and in a basic, natural and ethically appropriate way. I specifically emphasised the terms "diversity" and "inclusion" in my allusions to the corrupt and unjust nature of the organisation at Noel Leeming Mega Centre store. I only touched upon race because the Manager was obvious very "buddy-buddy" and biased towards his own staff, and there were certainly favourable personal relationship forces underpinning the favourable and treatment and lack of attention/discipline from the Manager to the abusive member of staff. If it was a diverse organisation and everyone didn't possess such strong personal bonds to each other, I'd feel at least an adequate level of professional relationship dynamics would be at work, and therefore any dealings would be more professional and just. In hindsight, I probably could have just simply mentioned that the store is dominated by nepotism, favourtism towards employees and disregard for the customer, instigated and proliferated by the Manager.

I don't view favourably towards professionals speaking in an unofficial language in a professional setting, in front of customers/clients. I find it suspicious that a store under the umbrella of a giant mainstream nationwide chain that draws its customers from every corner and demographic of society, only chooses to hire its staff from a single ethnicity/demographic. Did I mention these issues out of frustration and antagonism towards the Noel Leeming St Lukes Mega Centre and its staff and management? Sure I did. Otherwise I really wouldn't have mentioned those things. If this was an ethnic restaurant, supermarket or religious organisation, then they are very welcome to limit their hiring to their own demographic/ethnic group, I feel that's absolutely fine and expected. However for major mainstream chains, I feel that the staff composition should at least be somewhat balanced, and somewhat reflective of the cross-section of the local society as a whole. What if I or my children wanted to apply for a job at Countdown and I saw no one there looked like me and all staff had the exact same demographic background? What kind of thoughts would I have as to my realistic opportunities there? Too those skeptics, or "haters", slap on a "Racist" label on me as much as you like. I'm only speaking for greater social harmony and integration of our communities.

For the record, I'm not Anglo-Saxon/Pakeha. Therefore, technically, it's impossible for me to be racist. However I'm not gonna cozy up in that shield to deflect any genuine accusations. I judge each individual by their own merit and their own merit only. If people are calling out the STEM industry for being male-dominated, are they being sexist and displaying sexist behaviours and attitudes? Actually, come to think of it, if only more people spoke out for greater diversity in our business organisations, then the migrant labour exploitation scandals that have rocked the hospitality industry in recent years might have been controlled and abated earlier.

My "Provocation"

I didn't say anything that was remotely close to be worthy of such treatment and abuse evident in the threat of bodily harm. In fact, I didn't swear, use any racial slurs or any race references, did not use any personal insults or attacks, or anything of that kind. It was literally Me vs. a whole cohort of their retinue of at least 8 or more who had been chatting behind the counter with each other when I entered the store, and then all focused their attention on me when I displayed displeasure they ransacked through the phone and the box while they had no intentions of actually arranging for any of my requests. The thing that triggered him (unjustifiably) to such extreme actions was that I said one word to him while I was packing up my phone box and the accompanying Bonus JBL speakers box which they had chucked around and splattered all over the service desk like a toy duck. The word is a word in his native language which I don't even know the meaning of. I don't know how to write it, I didn't have the correct pronunciation, but it obviously triggered him to perform such drastic and extreme actions. I learn it from my co-workers while I was working at KFC. I admit its most likely a bad word, but I have no idea what it means. No matter what the word meant, it certainly did not constitute him accosting me to outside the store and yelling in my face "I WILL F*** YOU UP!!! I FINISH AT 530".

I won't be answering back to this thread any further. Thanks again to the posters who answered back with decency, civility and class.
