Can someone give me a idea of the flow of how this is supposed to happen.

After wasting months in consenting hell, I finally get it approved.

I came home on Friday to find Fibre ran down my neighbors fence and trunked to just outside my garage next to the existing telecom demarc.

No discussions at all about this, it just happened.

Today I get a phone from Chorus telling me that someone needs to come and do a site survey and work out how the fibre is going to be run, I tell them it's already been done and they say it's impossible with a form being signed.

It's clearly messed up, can someone give me a timeline of how this should work ?

From my experience:
Someone comes onsite and meets you, talks about where you want it to end up, discuss options. Come up with a plan that you agree to.
Another person comes to do the outside work - finishes when Fibre is run to the outside box.
Another person comes to do the inside work, install the white Chorus box inside and hook up router.

Can be several days/weeks between each (mine was only a few days each).

Sounds like someone skipped step 1?

As above. The people who came to do the outside work completed it without notification, but was consistent with the plan agreed during the scoping visit.




Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

That's the problem, there was no scoping visit, no plan agreed. They just did it without any communications.

This morning I get the call to book the scoping visit, 4 days after the build.

Perhaps you should tell them that the install is unacceptable as it's attached to your neighbour's fence for one thing.

I would, but no one will admit to actually doing the install.

Chorus claim to have no record or work order for it; all the contractors appear to be denying it.

It's almost funny, but not quite.

So there's no problem really? They'll come for a scoping visit and then redo the install in the appropriate manner?

P.S. Isn't your neighbour's fence also usually your fence?

I thought that too, but apparently they've checked all the other houses in the street. They can't find anything.

Seems someone has just ignored process and built without consent is is now not admitting it.

I seriously can't believe critical infrastructure installed by clipping to a fence is a an acceptable quality level for installation.

This is another leaky buildings waiting to start.

As Chorus are saying it is not their install then they won't have any issues with you removing it.

If I was you I'd get the install done properly and then ask nicely if someone can remove the part of the install that nobody is admitting to doing.

While I totally agree that mistakes happen, it seems mistakes with the whole UFB rollout process are a lot more common than one might hope... especially since ultimately we're all paying for it. Mistakes during the first couple of years could probably be written off as "we're still getting our processes sorted" - fair enough. But the number of stories still coming out around the whole thing would be hilarious, if it wasn't for the fact it's tax payer dollars that are probably being wasted.

Chorus will claim that "ah well, the contractor doesn't get paid in these cases, so the tax payer isn't actually out of pocket" but I have little doubt the contractors find ways to recoup their costs...

Fibre is currently being laid in our street. The original letter said they would start late June (I think) and be done by mid-july. Granted they were a couple of weeks late to start, but here we are 3 months later and they still appear to be going - with rolls of fibre strewn all over the place, traffic cones, diggers, etc.  I know it's not a simple process, but why send a letter to residents saying "we'll be done in your street by date X" if they weren't sure?

I don't know, perhaps they are actually done in our street and are just storing all their stuff there while doing the surrounding areas - because, other than the occasional chorus van very little work actually seems to be getting done. They've already dug a large trench in the road, spent a bunch of time doing something in it, then asphalted over it. And also ripped up all the fairly new (like literally a matter of months old) sidewalks on the opposite side of the road and replaced them. Who knows, because other than the original letter to the residents of our street there has been zero communication. But the impression I get as a member of the public looking in on it, is that the whole thing is very disorganized...

Sorry for the hijack, it didn't seem worth starting a new thread as this ones title was so perfect.

Once UFB is installed in the street, how does one hear that you can start the home installation process?

The chorus street signage say they are "just clearing up", and the map says "by October 2015" for my address.

probably when either the chorus map says you can get it or your ISP of choice, website says its available. no real other way to know
