Hi all

I live in Tremont apartment, Auckland, and there are already many flats have UFB connection so MDU consent is already there so I signed up for 200/20 UFB with Bigpipe. No problem they said. Chorus has given the scope visit date and installation date but when I asked to provide access in comms room then I have found from building manager that in previous installation as the installers, who are a private firm subcontracting to Chorus, have Collapsed two corridor ceilings, bringing down the fire system and lighting, so building manager not inclined to have them back here, neither is the building insurer. Meantime fibre installations are suspended. That was really frustrating and not able to get the connection due to the sloppy work did by someone. I don't know how much time it would take to sort out the issue as the Chorus is in touch with them as they said. But they also saying that if they did n't allow the installation they will proceed with cancellation. I really can't understand if the consent is already taken then how can I convenience the manager that they will do their work this time correctly, who will take the responsibility? This is the matter they should resolve by themselves.

Thanks for reading the post.

Consent has nothing to do with this. If the building owners and insurers aren't willing to let a subcontractor into the building (who will have liability insurance anyway) there is basically nothing you can do.

You can't guarantee anything because you're not doing the work.

Liability insurance is a very important thing when doing such work in a building - there are plenty of buildings where UFB will never happen as a consequence of liability issues with major civil work in the building.

Perhaps write a letter to the apartments owner/board? Is extra cabling required seeing there is already fibre in there?

99% of MDU's require cabling for a UFB install. Typical MDU setup is conduit (or some sort of pathway) on back to a BIDI on each floor. Fibre normally then has to be run from the BIDI to the apartment.
