SKYMAX: How come nobody asked how he got rid of 140m of cable? Did they move the house? lol

i was watching him and i still dont know lol, but it did make a difference as it raised the download and upload speed by 2000 and its not worth keeping VDSL because the DLM is not working on the line so nothing is going to change in the future and i should now get better speeds on ADSL2 since in theory i have moved my house 140 metres closer to the cabinet.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

from what i could gather , the box thingy that was about 3 feet underground in a big hole, connected a few houses to the main line and when they first installed it they put my connection at the end of the loop of houses , he just moved it to the start so it didnt have to travel that 140 metres to get to my house. Does that make sense ?

Okay, so now I have changed my SNR to 6 using the java app on page 4.

Everything appears fine now, ie 49Mbps, 1ms, but the errors are very big... see picture below.

Is this good? I take it I will now have random disconnects? Modem has only been online for 20 minutes or so.

You will have to monitor it and tell us how stable it is! :-)
If it's stable and you don't notice any lag (from having to resend the information again after an error), then most of us will be jealous.

So nothing can be done about getting the send snr down and therefore speed up at all?

The upload speed is limited by Chorus. If you're at or near that limit (Max. DSLAM throughput - 10360) then there is nothing you can do.

It was syncing at 40Mbps/9Mbps. The most I could get out of it from my house which is about 1.5km away from the modem is 3.6MB/s down. (Over Wireless). I will test later and see what it gets up to now... Speedtests now around 44-45Mbps and 15ms to CHCH Snap server.

Wow that's great speeds you had after tweaking, the CRC errors seems a bit high, if you get disconnected you could to try -30 instead of -60.

This was similar in my case, first I used to get a huge amount of errors, then DLM changed to 8ms latency and then back to 1ms with much less errors and no change from my part. I think that was probably the bitswap that was off at the beginning and then switched back on but in you case you already have it on so time will tell.

vexxxboy: It seems when the phone lines were put in , Broadband didn't exist , so they put in what he called .4 size lines.

I have the same issue where I live. I'm 900+ meters away from the cabinet with a VDSL line attenuation of 20. All the lines from the cabinet are .4. UFB is not expected until the year 2019 so I have some time to wait before fast broadband will be available in my street.

I tried the 'page 4 advice' and took mine down to -20, then -30 and I'm running on -40 at the moment. Speed was at approx 25mbp sync and now just over 30mbps sync. I watched a couple of 1080P youtube vids with some stuttering, 720p were fine loading very fast. Can anyone suggest any good tests to see if these changes are really making much of a differrence?

Speedtest is still the best for general throughput. But the main thing is to watch for disconnections or high CRC error rates.
