Seems inaccurate, says I can get VDSL but not ADSL, but in fact its the other way around...

VDSL and ADSL are tricky for us to get right because there are so many local environmental factors that can affect service. For example, the quality of the copper or whether the ground it goes through is water-logged. So we've tried to be fair and explain that the next step is to involve a retail ISP and get them to check exactly what is available. Hopefully the data quality will improve significantly, in the coming months.

Your biggest issue is that for all those rural on adsl1 and conklin cabinets cannot get anywhere near the speeds you are advertising. I know they are theory speeds and you do suggest to ask your ISP but they wont know either as they will do a line test and say you can get upto 7-8mbps dl but the reality is you will be lucky to get 0.5mbps in the evenings and 1-2 during the day.

You need to be true and say ADSL 1 TECHNOLOGY IS ONLY LIKELY TO GIVE YOU 0.5MB DOWNLOAD AT PEAK TIMES. For those on Conklins, PlEASE MOVE TO GET ANY RESEMBLANCE OF WHAT WE CALL INTERNET.

As I have said in the past Chorus do not out rightly admit that the issue is with their back haul to these cabinets.

The rest of the country that is on adsl 2 and better its fine but you need to change that on the map because it is a magnitude of order away from you can get !

Your fibre map is a bit out of date: for example, Taupo fibre is actually complete now.

hotrok - can you give me some examples please?

DarthKermit - We can only work with the data we've been given (in some cases we've got more up to date data but haven't had a chance to upload it yet). With all the publicity around the map we expect to get much more frequent updates and to upload them quicker.

Example :-- 1100 Rolling Ridges Road, Timaru. Cabinet is chorus glen/g. So if you look on your map it says it is between 5mbps-10mbps download and Chorus maps says it has > (greater than;) ) 5MB.

This GIS Geek map is really handy for looking at the cabinets dotted around the country. You just need to click on fibre fed cabinets and copper fed cabinets. This will show location of cabinets. If they are copper fed that means they are conklins which means sub 1mbps download at practically any time. The fibre fed ones is trickier, the one I shown you is only ADSL1 and thus lucky to get even 0.5mbps in the evening. Those cabinets that have been upgraded will give VDSL and ADSL2 and will give much more closer to the advertised speeds

Its a year old but this before Netflix!!!! and therefore has not got any better. The ping has got worse tho, and unlikely to under a 100 which I know is not that bad compared to those on a Conklin.

The interesting thing is do some research and ask Chorus what bandwidth are they giving these people in the rural sectors on these cabinets. I suspect that the cabinet I am on we are getting like 6mb between 50 connections to share which is a joke in modern times.

Guess where I live? The light pink (fibre planned for Jan 2016) island in this picture.

Seriously though, how does this happen? Fibre all around this one location and nothing until Jan 2016 for this small area. I would really like to understand the planning and scheduling decisions behind this.

National Broadband Map - "Fibre ... rollout Planned for June 2016 to July 2019"

Chorus Broadband Capability Map - "UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps between Jul-2019 and Dec-2019"

... two completely different date ranges.

National Broadband Map - "Fibre rollout complete by July 2016"

same, im not sure where they have gotten their dates from but they differ significantly in some cases to what chorus have advised.

I would trust chorus over this map at the moment. as there is just too much info that is different.

Well I'm heartened to see that fibre rollout is scheduled for us between 2016 & 2019 now. The Chorus website shows 2019 as an estimate, so it sounds like this may be a conservative upper limit.

Yes it is a conservative upper limit. We do have better Chorus data and we're hoping to have it on the site fairly soon.
