The thing that technology-minded folks in this thread fail to understand is that a huge number of customers value having "one bill". This is extremely common at Vodafone and we're seeing this play out more in the energy market where it's incredibly common to see gas, power, broadband and a "promo" (tv? fridge?) offered on the one bill. Some are even offering mobile. Customers are much less likely to churn when all of their services are in one place, especially if it means multiple bills.

IMO they really missed out on the opportunity to buy Stuff Fibre, assuming they were offered or knew (this is Sky management we're talking about). Could've hit the ground running with a bundled service offering pretty easily. Too late now .

@networkn You have to have this package before you can get that package, You can't have this Sky channel unless you have this channel

Yes it's easy I agree but just annoying at times

Maybe, I have Sky, I have a wide range of interests, so it does me. Sport, Docos, News AU, News CNN, easy access to FTA, easy recording. Not annoying to me, its just easy.

shk292: Presumably you’ll have to pay extra if you want to use the Internet in more than one room. And you won’t be able to end your contract without taking your router to an obscure shop in a suburb 15km away. And full speed will be included in the base package for some domains, but you’ll have to pay extra for full speed in others

Lol a +10. I put that down to Sky hate.  There is an easy option, don't get Sky dont get Sky BB, easy. IMHO, they feel they can garner a profit off it. If they can, its the right choice.

However, sadly for Sky, there's no longer a huge number of customers to kick this off with.

TRUE!  Only 586,000 satellite customers left.  Not many at all.

Aren't Sky acquiring Lightbox from Spark?  That would improve their streaming platform.  I don't love Lightbox, but it's more usable than Neon.

Possibly also setting themselves up for having a better crack at live streaming sport.

The landline is dead for many households, so UFB + OD stream + Live Stream is a reasonably complete package.  Only missing mobile really.

I believe they already have Lightbox. They are diversifying, its not rocket science. As a platform its compelling, a lot in one box. Yes, not cheap, but it has sport, its now diversifying, sound business sense. Not rocket science. No its not $15 Netflix. It was never meant to be.

Sport ok, Docos between the promos maybe, News AU = Sky News = Murdoch = right wing racist snakepit, CNN available elsewhere without all the promos, easy access to FTA by free use of leftover Sky satellite dish without Sky annoyances or costs, cheap satellite receiver also features easy recording without the limitations.

Where are you seeing that Sky is essentially bust without 157M? My understanding is that it's to pay for the new services they want to add?

Its to pay down debt.  Launch of new services is next year.  Banks have demanded that it reduces its debt.  Its issuing 1.3bn shares (thats 3x its existing shares) at 12c each.  It has no institutional shareholders as they have zero confidence in management and its strategy.  So its all retail.  And if it doesnt get the cash from its retail shareholders what will the company do to repay its debt???

Its worth $50m pre funding.  The current management have halved EBITDA in two years.  It will have profit of $5-15m next year (a rounding error).  And there is no clear sign that it can turn that around.

Yea Sky was trying to sell OSB (their broadcast division) but that's public knowledge.

And dont forget Stuff did Fibre for 3 years to get 20,000 customers....... to exit by selling to Vocus.

Perhaps Sky should have snapped them up for instant entry to broadband market.

Everything from Sky works very reliably and in a nice easy package.

How many posts do you have trying to fix issues with your various bypasses of geoblocks and assorted devices?

The value proposition isn't there for you but that doesn't mean that it isn't valuable for others.

3. I didn't suggest anything else.

Ok then what point were you trying to make with your post?

Other than point 2 which I can only make the assumption is ironic.

Lol. How would you describe 795,000 customers? How many companies in NZ have more?

Kind of. I believe technically it was structured as Sky buying VFNZ and then VF Europe buying 51% of the combined entity and existing Sky shareholders holding the rest.
