Hi,

I am considering migrating Himself over to an Outlook email address, as his ISP one is becoming a bother.

I have an Office365 account which mentions I can have up to 5 users, 5PCs and 5tablets, and up to 5TB on OneDrive.

How would I go about setting up Himself as a second "user"?

Is that how 365 works? 5 people with their own email addresses?

Everytime I google "second email account" I seem to get instructions for adding an account to the Outlook client, which I already know how to do.

I'm probably googling the wrong thing.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I assume that your Office 365 account is managed from a non-Microsoft account. I have had one Microsoft account with Office installed on two different computers. You can still do that as the following support request shows

There are many sites with help to create an outlook.com account, e.g.

But if you already logged into a Microsoft account then "Create account" takes you to your inbox.

I guess what I am trying to achieve, is an outlook email address for Himself, based on my subscription, that he can use with Outlook 2010.

So can I do this using just my MS account, or do I need to create an account for Himself as well?

Not sure I quite understand what you're saying, but in principle:

1. a personal office365 account can be installed on 5 pc/macs and 5 mobile devices. You use the same login credentials on each machine to achieve activation, and MS aggresively checks to make sure the license is still valid.

2. You cannot create domain email support (ie your personal stuff), just public like hotmail, gmail etc

3. the credentials from (1) are used to validate APP SOFTWARE license. They have no bearing on Windows login or Email accounts. You may wish to create a seperate Windows login for a machine, as using 2 versions of outlook on the same machine is a pain, as is having 2 people's email on the same Outlook app (eg husband/wife).

4. I think Outlook 2010 has been ended for Outlook sync support, and 2013 is not far away.

Exactly what Office365 a/c do you have, there are many. Is it home or personal
Because there are so many types of 365 a/c's , googling will only give confusing info .

As usual, MS do a terrible job of answering your basic question . You can ring their help desk, the help desk/support is quite good.

Gmail is a good free alternative.
Or Outlook.com for free email.

I have an Office365 Home sub, the one for up to 5 users, but so far I am the only user.

I have a premium outlook.com email address, so no ads, and some extra features.

I would also like Himself to have a premium outlook.com email address, but without having to buy a sub for him as well.

He also uses an Android tablet, hence the premium, no ads requirement.

I don't necessarily want to install Office365 on his PC, but that is going to have to happen at some point (probably when we next upgrade his PC).

He doesn't want to receive my emails, and I don't want to receive his. So I don't think an alias account is what we need.

Sorry if I am being unclear, but that is probably an indication of how confusing this is for me.

I thought this would all be possible with the Home sub, but maybe it isn't.

You log in to your portal to send invites to email addresses of users you want to share your subscription with:

https://www.office.com/

They receive your invite email and accept:

Within a few moments they should receive same benefits to you such as ad-free Outlook.com and increased storage on OneDrive.

thank you @yitz , but I think this is where it all falls down for me.

I get that I will have to Share my sub with him.

But does getting a Microsoft account/email address come before or after that step?

I would say register a outlook.com email address before just to be sure.

Set up the relevant forwarding / pull from old ISP server for your new Outlook.com account.

It is possible to register a Microsoft account with your existing ISP email address (which you are wanting to move from) which could be confusing and end up assigning the subscription to the wrong Microsoft account.

Yes, as listen to @yitz. You definitely should set up a new email account for Him. You will then send Him an Office 365 invite as @yitx explained earlier.

We're interpreting what you need as:

1. Separate Microsoft accounts which are based on separate email accounts.

2. Separate Office 365 installs managed from your Microsoft account.

a. Yours on your computer with Outlook setup to access your Microsoft account

b. His on His computer with Outlook setup to access his Microsoft account.

But, as I said above, if you are logged into your Microsoft account then going to "Create account" at outlook.com will simply take you to the inbox for your Microsoft account. So log out of your account and then create His account.

Office 365 can work with any number (1,2,3,4,5) of email addresses.

AFAIK, none of the email accounts have to be Microsoft because, where they are not Microsoft email accounts, Microsoft uses their non-Microsoft email account to name to create a matching Microsoft account.

The Microsoft accounts are used to manage each install but Microsoft authorises Office use by computer so you don't have to login with a Microsoft account to use the Office software.

I currently have 5 installs: 2 for me using two different Microsoft accounts; 3 for my children each with their own non-Microsoft email account. In the past I've had three installs using one Microsoft account.

I hope this adds clarity rather than more confusion, but the email address that you share the Office 365 Home applications with does not have to be a an outlook.com or a hotmail.com account - although I am assuming you have one of those currently and yes it would be simpler to to create one for "himself" in this instance I would expect.
