Hi All,

We use Dropbox to store selected backups but Dropbox's recent update (just this month March 2021) has somehow stopped the automatic backup process we've had going for years from our Server.

How do I get this working again? Dropbox is unable to manually revert the update to the previous version which I though would be the easiest solution.

Or can someone recommend a good alternative to Dropbox?

How much space are you looking at for backup?

Google does a backup and sync with google drive. Install backup and sync from google, select the folders you want to back up.

Once setup in google drive website it goes to the "Computers" area (left hand side) click on that and shows the machine name and the folders backed up.

Note:

To restore you need to go to the google drive website and download the folder and move it back to your server. You can't restore from the backup and sync software.

I suggest you use a backup service provider. BackBlaze, or a piece of software like Cloudberry Backup with B2 / S3.

Personally I have replaced Dropbox with SyncThing because I got tired of their limits. It can run peer to peer on your computer, but I set it up with a central server on my AWS EC2 server. If I need to store a lot of stuff I'll mount a drive on EFS or S3 or something. Highly recommended for technical people, not recommended at all for people who aren't technical as it's a bit of a PITA compared with dropbox.

The OneDrive / Office365 offering from Microsoft is worth considering...

Thanks for all your suggestions to date.

Initial contact was made to Dropbox support but got no help and still no response from their engineers.

I just want a simple file backup solution that is compatible with Windows Server - nothing too complicated.

No need for syncing etc.

See how it goes with Dropbox support. In terms of file server backup I am pretty happy with MSP360 (formerly Cloudberry) and using both Microsoft Azure and Backblaze B2 for storage.

I've been using Nextcloud for some years now; It can handle selective directories between machines, video conferencing, calendars and a lot more.

I used CloudBerry for a few years, but their most recent upgrade was in beta and didn't look like you could continue with your backups, you had to start again. As I was setting up a new computer at the time I just gave up on them and used Restic instead.
