cgrew:stuzzo:cgrew:DarkCypher: Without knowing for sure, but don't you also need a 1.4 HDMI cable?
The HDMI 1.4a cable is required for 3D content but as Gavin said, the PS3 should at least pick up that there is a disc in the system.
Well i presume it would of anyway..
I very much doubt you need a different cable for 3-D. It's really about bandwidth and most HDMI cables will cope with that fine.
For the new Ethernet link you might need a new cable depending whether the current "spare" pin actually has a cable in it and engineered in the right way.
Probably should have been more specific, HDMI 1.4a would be required for lossless audio and 1080P+ resolutions.
cgrew:langi27:
its only capable of 720p 3D resolution which is well inside the bandwidth specs for 1.3.
The PS3 is capable of higher resolutions for 3D content than that isn't it?
cgrew: So the PS3s max output resolution is 1080P? I was postitive that if there was Blu-Ray content that was recorded at a higher res the PS3 would hack it wouldn't it? Or am I wrong..
cgrew: As for the audio, I have my PS3 set to bitstream running through my HDMI AV receiver, now that's lossless audio but I'm not running 3D for my display but if a user had a PS3 and a 1.4a receiver and the same version HDMI cable wouldn't they still be getting lossless audio?

I don't know, but in the AV settings, 1080p is the highest setting for video output. Is higher than 1080p possible on BR or any consumer electronics?cgrew: As for the audio, I have my PS3 set to bitstream running through my HDMI AV receiver, now that's lossless audio but I'm not running 3D for my display but if a user had a PS3 and a 1.4a receiver and the same version HDMI cable wouldn't they still be getting lossless audio?
No. When the PS3 switches to 3D mode lossless isn't output any longer, the type of receiver is irrelevant audiowise.
cgrew: Really? Well thats kinda of crap.. I wonder if further down the track there will be new PS3's available that will support lossless audio and high res 3D output at the same time...
langi27: ok maybe this is the answer.

Sorry for my ignorance, but if the HDMI cable itself is 1.4a speed capable?then won't that push dual 1080P through the pipes for 3D content? Or does the actual port on the PS3 have to support 1.4a for this?
Cheers.
cgrew: Ah I see so it is a chip in the port itself which allows it to process the signal for higher resolutions and audio for 3D content.
But how come then are there HDMI cables out there that you can buy that are certified for 1.4a and beyond speed capabilities? Is this just a marketing scheme or is there still some tech involved with it? In other words does one require the other?to reach?full potential in the output signal?
Again sorry for my ignorance.
Cheers
