Ghost of Tsushima

Quite good. Combat controls a bit complex. I can’t for the life of me remember all the button combinations!

Great game IMO - and combat controls are worth persevering with.

Divine Knockout. New, from Hi-Rez studio 'Red Beard Games'. There are three Kiwis on the team (was initially four), one of whom is our son.

I'm pretty hopeless (same with most games!). Now officially launched.

I have no video card at the moment so... .Golf With Your Friends.

When I last booted up Minecraft my toddler enjoyed sitting in my lap and pointing at the animals, which, while fun, is a somewhat limited way to play the game.

Haven't seen it mentioned here, but Songs of Conquest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtDQSUeQUPc

Described as a HoMM-like (Heroes of Might and Magic for the unenlightened), it changes the core gamplay in a few interesting ways:

- Cap on Wielders (Heroes) allowed by a given faction based on settlement count

- Different sizes of settlements, as well as limits on settlement buildings

- Daily replenishment of troops

- No Overworld spells, Hearthstone-style mana generation during battles
Think low-powered at first, becoming high powered later in battle, late game the high powered spells become available very quickly.

All in all, an incredible breath of fresh air in a space that Ubisoft have squandered for a while now, and despite it being Early Access, it gets regular weekly updates.

Then there's Dwarf Fortress, since it came out on Steam recently. Essentially Fantasy-World Rimworld with massive depth and complexity. Can see how it's the grandaddy and inspiration for so many other games.

And Overwatch 2. Aside from it's accessibilty and general gunplay feel, hasn't done itself any favors with some of the greediest monitization/FOMO mind-trickery I've seen in a AAA game yet.

Just started playing Death Stranding which I got free from Epics give away today. First game on PC in 3 years. Man it's stunning to look at.

Having said that, I am just massively struggling to follow the story. There is so much going on, and I've only played about 90 minutes worth. I have no idea what is going on!

Is anyone able to give me a no spoilers run down?

I am slightly concerned this is going to end up a walking simulator. I am not into grinding games.

I gave up on DS in the end. I must have put 50 hours in but didn't progress the story very far. I just got lost in the world itself. I found exploring was more fun than progressing the story.

The ‘story’ is tenuous to say the least. I persevered to the end but sorry to say it’s not a great game IMO.

It seems polarizing to say the least, some people saying it's the best game they played in 5 years, others saying don't bother. I'll put another hour into it, and if it doesn't warm up significantly, move on to something else.

So many good games to play, not worth spending time on something I won't enjoy. The graphics are amazing though, on PC.

I see various places doing Control Ultimate edition between $15 and $20. Was frustrated it left game pass this year, I would have liked that. I played it and struggled initially, but I want a good game to try gaming on my PC with.

I thought this game sounded very intriguing, but after a quick look at this review, I think I'll give it a miss.

I recently finished Sniper Elite 4 and 5 and all their DLCs. Pretty good games IMO - very much my preferred style of game.

Then played COD Vanguard and finished it a couple of days ago. I thought it was just OK and not a standout for me. Quite well made but rather short, very linear and somewhat predictable.

Now playing Hitman 3 PS5. It’s a bit ‘different’ and it’s far from clear to me how the game works. I don’t mean it’s not clear what to do - find way/s to kill someone - because figuring that is what the game is all about. And the controls are good and straightforward.

What I mean is it’s not clear how the overlapping and alternative plot lines and challenges and feats etc all work together. Have spent quite some time trying to figure out how to use the game, rather than how to play the game. It’s not too hard to find a way to make a kill (in the tutorial at least) but then it’s all over too soon. If you want to extract maximum use and enjoyment from the game, you need to run each level multiple times to make the kill in a different way - and I found that somewhat confusing and complicated.

I ended up playing the extended tutorial (which you also need to run through several times if you want to get all the achievements) by following some YouTube walkthroughs step by step. Sounds like cheating but it was the only way I was going to be able to understand how the game structure works.

I also read a lot of explanations for beginners online. I’m starting to get it now and I think it’s worth persevering because it looks like a good game. Once it fully clicks in my brain I think I’m going to really like it - but I’m just not quite there yet. These things take time for ageing gamers.

I've just bought Command & Conquer Remastered on Steam only $6 atm.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1213210/Command__Conquer_Remastered_Collection/

They did quite a good job of upscaling the graphics and made some fixes - a good documentary around it:

Holds up pretty well, most of the way through the GDI missions and brings back the nostalgia.
