Had Borderlands since it came out. Wondering what everyone else thinks about it, e.g. favourite playable character.

Currently playing a L18 Hunter, with friends over in Australia. Gameplay is good, interesting graphics. Network configuration (firewall changes) for LAN games over the net is a pain though...

The FPS and a RPG had a baby!  It's great enjoying it so far... Got a level 20ish Berserker.

I agree having to manually forward ports to host games was a pain, retro throwback!

F8 for screenshots in game (doesn't work in menus I think, use FRAPS for that), saves to Documents > My Games > Borderlands.. etc

Just started a 2nd character, a Siren to check out the difference to my Berserker

Is it MMO?

Seems sorta wow-ey to me. Havent paid it much attention though still playing the thoroughly excellent Uncharted 2: Drakes Fortune.

Whether Borderlands gets much of a look in the next few months between DJ hero, the new Call of duty Modern Warfare and finally getting around to playing GTA4.

So many games, so little time. So much abuse from my better half for buying said games!! LOL

It's not really an mmo. It's a co-operative FPS with RPG elements like levelling up and item drops. Up to 4 players in a game.

So basically you can play single player or host a private game and invite some friends, or host a public game and play with whoever joins or use the match making lobby to join a game someone else is hosting.

Config tweaks to de-console-ifiy the game
http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=79043

I went with vsync on, disable mouse smoothing, disable annoying startup movies (the way it's meant to be played etc).

Also disabled in game voice chat and just use steam's voice chat with friends instead.  The in-game voice com seemed to be poor quality and there are no options to adjust anything ie: volumne, push to talk key etc.

Haven't mucked around with the field of view tweaks yet, however the default FOV is pretty lame.

Example:  From Stu on the Overclockers NZ forums

Open these in seperate tabs and switch between them:

Absolutely loving this game at the moment. Have really only been playing co-op, and with good friends (bought a 4-pack on Steam). It took a while to get a feel for what was right for the different classes, but now we love it......even if there is a bit of arguing about who gets the latest epic weapon drop.

Im running on an XPS 1530 (Core2Duo and Geforce 8600GT with 512MB dedicated) and it runs at full res (1440x900), with all settings on high. This is surprising as Unreal Tournament 3 (same engine) runs like an absolute dog on my laptop......

Yeah you would probably want a dual core CPU. I also have 3gb of ram...

Yeah the default FOV sucks, once you increase it you won't go back.  The best thing to do (imo) is to add the command to one of your movement binds.  Just add " | FOV 100" or whichever number you like to use to the end of the command for moving forward or another frequently pressed key.   This means if the FOV ever resets you don't need to think about it to make it happen again (this happens if you run in multiplayer, or occasionally after berserker and other effects, and sometimes using the shops).

Other tweaks I've made are toggle zoom (instead of default press to zoom, being a sniper sucks so much with press to zoom) and press to crouch rather than toggle crouch.

You can find those tweaks in the link Ragnor posted.  The one other tweak you'll want to do is the one that lets you see full 5+ lines of item stats (I'd use font size of 10 or 12 which allows 6 lines - some of the descriptions wrap to two lines).  Hopefully gearbox will patch the game soon to fix that one, as it affects console players too.

It's got fairly low graphics requirements. I'm playing it at 1920x1080 with everything turned up as high as it'll go and it pretty much just sits on 60fps with a fairly middle-of-the-road nVidia GTS250 (aka 9800GTX). Not sure how high it goes with VSync off (don't really care either as it's irrelevant on a 60hz LCD :) )

If it's on PC, then make sure you turn VSync on, otherwise it has terrible graphics tearing. Turning mouse-smoothing off makes it much nicer to control too. Check Ragnor's link for details, it makes a big improvement.

I quite like it although it's quite grindy and repetitive at times. I believe the multiplayer is a lot more fun than single player although as Mauricio says, config is a bit of a hassle.

Oh yeah mouse smoothing! Totally agree turning that off makes a huge difference. Also make sure aim assist is off (this is in a menu), I found it was more of a hindrance than an assist.

I've turned that off too, but will have to check out that FOV mod.
