Hi!
Every time I choose "Connect To Bluetooth Serial Port" I get an error. But the connection i etablished. Why do I get this error?
I have tried all COM ports, but get the same error every time.
I have a Widcomm Bluewtooth Dongle and a Nokia 7650.

Yep, I know what you mean. It's strange, but it seems you have to connect to the Nokia first, then you'll get disconnect, and the mobile will connect back to the bluetooth.

It seems like the first connection is only a "wake up" call, and then the mobile connects back to the Server comp port. Wouldn't be that bad, if not for the warning message.

It happens with my Nokia 3650 too, but not with the Ericsson T39m.

I just don't get it!

My Nokia 3650 accepts downloads using a DSE Widdcom flavoured bluetooth USB adaptor.
IT DOES NOT accept uploads back to the win98SE system as the Nokia PC Suite refuses to start beyond the waiting for connection - EVEN WHEN THE SEPERATE mRouter sofware icon on the taskbar right tray shows a successful connection having been established. WTF?

Cheers,
A.C.

Is there a fool-proof way of configuring the nokia 3650 to use the same channel for upload as the pc used for upload? I also noticed that com 4 is used by the bluetooth serial port for "local service" whereas com 5 is setup for bluetooth serial port for client applications. I can change both of these but there is a problem when trying to use any other com ports as they are not available - who knows why. And error message comes up that have to use com0 when try to activate/test serial port on Com 5 or 4!!! Who knows how I even managed to get the download to phone to work just by SENDING bluetooth from right windows menu!!
The 2 devices are successfully paired and I do not want to unpair them!

A.C., transfer files from your computer to the phone via right-click uses another Bluetooth profile called OBEX File Transfer. It's different from the Serial profile, and that's why it works fine when you use it.

You're right, the Nokia 3650 is not able to SEND files, only receive. You have to use the Nokia PC Suite to copy files from the phone to your desktop. This is not a Bluetooth problem, but the way Nokia created the phone. The Bluetooth FAQ says what this mobile can do:

  • Generic Access Profile
  • Serial Port Profile (DevA & DevB)
  • Generic Object Exchange Profile
  • Object Push Profile (as a client and server)
  • File Transfer Profile (as a server)
  • Dial-Up Networking Profile (as a gateway)
  • Fax Profile (as a gateway)

About "channel" for upload and download. The client and service COM ports should not ever be the same. One is for connections to your computer and other is for connections from your computer. You have to setup mRouter to check the Service COM port(s) as defined in your Bluetooth configuration. And only the Service! If you set it up to check the CLIENT ports, a conflict will occur and the phone will not connect.

I appreciate the prompt reply as it has helped me understand the situation better, BUT....

I simply cannot get any further with this infernal Nokia PC Suite program.
Although mRouter shows an ACTIVE connection between phone and PC on com port 4 (bluetooth), when I start PC Suite it ALWAYS refuses to action the OK button at the first use prompt - the one where is says "This is the first time you have used PC Suite. Please attach your Nokia 3650 to the PC and press OK to continue, or press close to exit PC Suite."

I cannot use the program in online or offline or any form because of this non-responsive OK (and I note that the mRouter icon in the PC suite screen shows as disconnected even though the mRouter icon on the taskbar appears connected). I have clean uninstalled and reinstalled the PC suite prog twice (which includes the mRouter prog) and come up with same probs. The prog came directly from the installation CD and is exactly the same as the latest version downloaded from the nokia website.
Is there some blame in the pairing that took place between the DSE Widcomm based bluetooth adaptor software and the nokia at installation?
As I said before - I have successfully managed to access the OBEX File Transfer through the paired devices and the mRouter if I understand correctly.

Again please shed some light on WTF is going on. I have become a big fan of your adventures!!
    A.C.

No, don't blame the pairing process... If the devices are paired, it's all good.

What screen is this? Can you post a screen shot? If you don't have a server to host, please send to me via e-mail.

    Thanks for the images!

I see, you're using Zone Alarm. Well, when using a Personal Firewall, the first rule you have to create is to allow communication FROM localhost TO localhost always allowed. This will save you lots of headaches.

mRouter is actually a mini-ICS for your Nokia 3650 and needs access to the TCP/IP (in this case localhost communication only). And if you have LAN Access enabled in your Bluetooth configuration, the Bluetooth stack will need it too (you can actually browse the net from the mobile phone while connected to mRouter, which is cheaper from home than GPRS, of course).

Please disable Zone Alarm (I know, the sense of security will go away for awhile) and try again. You might want to disconnect your cable or dial-up if you feel you need ZA.

The Nokia PC suite might be waiting for information from mRouter that are being blocked by ZA.

If Nokia PC Suite works without ZA running, then you might want to buy the ZA Pro (where you can define rules) or look at Norton Internet Security or Kerio Firewall.

EVERYBODY IN THE HOUSE SAY ....... YAY!

    Brilliant! Simply Brilliant!

I tried disabling Zonealarm in the past but that was BEFORE I got mRouter to recognise connection. I forgot to try disabling zonealarm AFTER getting mRouter to recognise connection. Needless to say Nokia PC Suite had no probs now.

BUT - Why does the Nokia 3650 refuse sending any image I try to send via Bluetooth (to the PC) = it says " Unable to connect. Max. number of bluetooth connections already in use. "
Was this phone transfer facility only meant to operate between PDAs and bluetooth phones but NOT PCs?

    Thanks again.

    Great stuff!

Regarding the image, I think the phone only receives the image via Bluetooth. Two ways operations via Bluetooth on this phone is only for Sync.

    Good stuff! Well done

    Hi all...
I have precisely the same symptoms with mRouter and PC Suite for the 7650 as acohen did.

It stareted quite a while ago, but I can't really connect it to something I did on the PC (it could even be after a fresh XP installation, though). In fact, this now led me to a painful complete loss of all contact and calendar data on my 7650 after an upgrade to it, since I could not use PC Suite to make a backup or at least restore a much older one! I tried everything I could think of, including reinstalling PC Suite and windcomm 1.3.7.2, and upgrading to 1.4.1.6. but to no avail.

Then I desperately started to look for some info about this problem and a Google search came up with the Geekzone and this thread (the only useful info I've found in Google about my problem so far!). Although I do not use ZoneAlarm, I was hoping that the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall was to blame, but unforetunately disabling it did not do the trick.

I would really appreciate any ideas you could give me on what else to try..
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Iam also having the same porblem as petran and acohen with my Nokia 3650, blutooth & PC Suite connection. I have uninstalled Zone Alarm like acohen but this did not solve the problem for me, i have searched the internet for the answer to this but cannot find it.

I have a fresh install of XP Pro and minimal programs on that could conflict, i have tried uninstalling and re installing the widcomm drivers and PC Suite a number of times but to no avail.

It seems a number of people have had a similar problem but there doesnt seem to be any solutions, also i get the error -

"Unable to connect. Max. number of bluetooth connections already in use.

on my 3650 when i try to send a file to my pc.

i have been trying to connect the 3650 for a week now and its doing my head in as this was one of the reasons why i chose this phone,

Some Please help b4 i go mad

One thing I forgot to mention is that when i double click the mRouter in the system tray i see these connections,

    CABLE COM1
    CABLE COM2
    BLUETOOTH COM3
    BLUETOOTH COM4
    BLUETOOTH COM5
    BLUETOOTH COM6
    BLUETOOTH COM7
    BLUETOOTH COM8
    BLUETOOTH COM9
    BLUETOOTH COM10
    BLUETOOTH COM11
    BLUETOOTH COM12
    BLUETOOTH COM13
    INFARED

and my question is, should there be this many bluetooth entries? and if not how do i get rid of some.

    Thanks in advance

Shrimper, all these ports are normal. You only need one port checked though. You have to confirm which port is used by your Bluetooth Service and that's the one to be used. Look in our Bluetooth Guides on how to synchronise the Nokia 3650 with the desktop and you'll see how to do it.

The problem with connecting the phone to the Nokia PC Suite might be a previous failed attempt (I've seen something like this before). Without connecting your phone, start the Nokia PC Suite. If it says something like "This is the first time..." then this is not the problem.

But if the Nokia PC Suite starts, then click on Control Panel. The last icon is a device list. Delete all mobile phones from there. Close the software, reboot the computer and follow the Bluetooth Guide on how to synchronise with your desktop.

    Thanks for your reply,

I have tried to delete the phone from the device manager within PC Suite but it says

"Nokia 3650 is currently active.Details cannot be removed".

But the phone is switched off the mRouter is showing no connection and the bluetooth icon is blue/white which also suggests no connection is there.

Also when i have been connecting the 3650 i have been making sure that there is only 1 tick in the mRouter properties but still PC Suite fails to start.

any other ideas that i could try?
