I have over the past week been able to get Bluetooth Hotsync working and to get a connection to my computer in an attempt to access a shared internet connection, thanks to your help from postings/guides - THANKS

However I am getting the message ; No DNS Servers were specified.  Please check network settings and try again [comm. 9]

I am running 98SE with a Belkin Bluetooth adaptor.

Netgear router
192.168.1.1

ICS share adaptor
192.168.1.2

Bluetooth Pan driver
192.168.0.1
I dont understand how to get the DNS of the ISP?

PPP adaptor
0.0.0.0 - don't know what is wrong here.

I didn't understand the advice on some previous postings about internet facing / bluetooth facing - can you please help?

Welcome to Geekzone... To find out what DNS to enter in the Bluetooth adapter, run a Command Prompt (Start | Run and type CMD) and enter the command IPCONFG /ALL.

You will see a list of adapters - one of these is the adapter your computer uses to connect to the Internet. Copy the DNS numbers into the Bluetooth adapter, just below the 192.168.0.1 address.

Getting closer I think.

I have only 2 adapters

ICshare and bluetooth

The main reference I can find to a DSN is 192.168.1.1 which is the router

In the router setup software there are 2 DNS addresses, I assume these are for the ISP

I have entered all 3 in the Bluetooth adaptor DNS address box.

I have also entered the router address as the gateway.

When I connect I get using Network on the Palm
Service: BTooth Internet
Local IP: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
DNS: blank

Any further suggestions

There are only two DNS fields in the configuration, and you say you have entered three. It sounds as you have entered the DNS addresses in all fields?

On your Bluetooth adapter you will keep the IP address 192.168.0.1, and enter two DNS addresses in the appropriate fields at the bottom.

I am unsure of where you mean for me to enter the DNS info

The only place I can see only 2 places to enter DNS is on the Palm, so I have now
entered the IP address of the Bluetooth adaptor manually as 192.168.0.1

I have also entered my 2 ISP DNS addresses manually.

When I "connect" the Palm is connecting ok to the PC (note it shows gateway 0.0.0.0)
but when I ping 192.168.0.1 I get timeout error 1212

Note: I have on the win98 PC setup the Bluetooth adaptor as IP 192.168.0.1
and have also entered the DNS 2off here also (ps: this is were I thought you meant to enter them previously, and it is possible to enter more than 2 here)

I have no software firewall, just the router - and I have disabled McAfee Internet Security

Regards

Using Win 98 I can enter as many

I understand you have HotSync working. That's great. But to have Internet access you have to do some other steps. Unlike Windows Mobile, when you connect to HotSync your Palm device won't automatically have Internet Access.

You have to follow this guide: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=1240

You won't enter anything on your Palm - actually delete the DNS and IP addresses that you manually entered there. You will do this on your PC.

On your computer you have two network adapters. One that is actually connected to your LAN (or cable or DSL modem). I think this is the ICS share adapter in your case. The second network adapter is associated with your Bluetooth configuration. In your case it'sthe Bluetooth PAN driver. It's on this one that you have to change the configuration and make sure that

1) It's configured as 192.168.0.1
2) Its DNS configuration is the one from your ISP.

Now, it's interesting that you have a PAN driver. It should be LAP. This is determined by your Bluetooth configuration, and it should be set as shown below:
