The problem is that the stereo is 2.4 GHz Wifi only.  Also at the moment the router I have is 2.4 GHz only as well - channels 1 to 13

Hi, a microwave is a 600-1000 watt transmitter (more on some models) in the same 2.4GHz band and the frequency occupancy of the magnetron will wander all over the place and be quite broad even if it did sit on one frequency, so changing channels is unlikley to help.

While the oven has shielding the amount of leakage is still going to be on par if not greater than your 0.1W wifi service so the end result is the same as the kids with a 200W stereo on full tit in the next room and even with good sound insulation you will most certainly find it hard to hear the TV over the din.

I suggest you move the microwave or radio much further apart, but dont be surprised if it still does not fix it.

Panasonic inverters seem to be the worst for killing wifi and 2.4GHz bluetooth etc since they have a continuious carrier, whereas cheap ones have the carrier coming and going at 100Hz since they are powered off the mains, so some data slips thru in the gaps.

In saying that I can use the laptop on 2.4GHz in the kitchen beside the microwave when cooking, thruput just takes a hammering - talking 800-1200kbit vs the 15 megabit when not cooking. Thats on a 54 G network with the router about 4 meters away thru a wall.
