Isn't residential Fiber just 100 Down / 50 Up at the moment ?

There are 200/200 options available in select places/isps at the moment, and there will of course shortly be giga whatever happening all over the place. the "450" on the pro's is as BS as the "300" - not a hell of a lot more than the 150 modes, wheras the wider channels and better modulations of ac actually go considerably faster.

Yes - if you want to you can just run the controller when you want to make changes.

The only stuff that won't work is guest portal/gateway stuff (i.e. charging for access/landing pages) - and obviously the stats gathering.

This is one of the best things about owning an UniFi - for $190 this router is a good deal and a perfect companion to the UniFi setup.

Not arguing with you (my controller runs 24/7) - but it is possible.

Hmm well I don't need the guest portal and charging for access features. All I want is to setup it up and then just let it run.
When i need to make changes etc, then opening the software should let me do that.

Bit confused why I would the controller running 24/7 , sorry if im naive :) @michaelmurfy

Keeping it open all the time means you get the stats on what device is using how much data, when devices enter and leave coverage, what area they are in. Was invaluable at work for checking up on break times etc.

I see ! Il probably look at the chorus maps and see how far those speeds are away for that area.

There really is no need to run the controler 24/7 unless you want guest portal.

What you must make sure though is that when the controller does run that it always comes up on the same IP. Things get very very broken if you don't - one of the benefits of running it on the security gateway.

I have never used the security gateway but if the routing is anything like the EdgeRouter then I wouldn't bother. I realise the point is that it has a built in Unifi controller but the EdgeRouter is no where near as good as a Mikrotik so that would be my pick over a Ubiquti router.
