There's only my wife and I in our house and at last count we were at 30 connected devices and I don't have any home automation at all! Amazing how quickly things add up.
BarTender: If you're building just put in more CAT6 thank you need including areas you may want to put an access point the future.
2 in every bedroom. 4 on both walls where your living spaces are. Plus two & power if you want a projector. And any in ceilings where APs might logically go.
Plus ducting for UFB if you are not getting it straight away.
It's super easy to do if it's already cabled and won't add much to the overall cost if you do it during build.
Yeah good advice. Only have ADSL available at present but UFB by 2019 - I guess that will end up being the END of 2019. 4G is actually faster than my DSL so planning to look at some wireless broadband options.
We've had conduit run from the roadside to the house to plan for the UFB. I've read somewhere there is no getting away from having an ETP stuck on the side of the house? Seems a shame to put it on the outside when it would be so easy to have it internal but I understand their reasons around serviceability.
What is needed internally? Is it just a conduit from the ETP to the comms cabinet where the ONT will be installed?
I'm sorry for the 'whats best' that is going to follow but I was about to place an order for a GWN7000 and two 7610 AP's and realised I could get an EdgeRouter4 and 2 UAPs for roughly the same money (slightly less in fact).
Sooo.....for those that know this stuff inside out where would you put your money? Keeping in mind when UFB becomes available in my area I'll subscribe to a gigabit connection.
Horses for courses. I don't know the grandstream gear, but plenty on here are liking it.
Personally, I like Unifi and always stick with that for wireless. The big thing is you really want to have the connected to a permanent controller of some sort, just makes things so much easier - nice thing is there a Geekzone Unifi controller you can do exactly that with.
ER4 is a great router, but again up to you. Personally I've never really like the edgerouter's mainly for their web UI, Mikrotik's winbox is just so much better in every way IMO. But with the ER4 being a little Debian box at the end of the day you can do some funky things with it.
For Gigabit the Grandstream access points are better however I have a Cambium E600 + Edgerouter 4 and it is a very fast setup (however expensive). The Grandstream gear is better suited if you just want a solution that works as its control panel is very easy to use. If you're going for the UniFi setup then you're best to go with the access points, USG and a UniFi Switch for the full setup.
Performance wise - the UniFi AP's are reliable however not the fastest so bare that in mind when deciding.
