hi, finally figured it out. I will shift router to 'lounge1' location, central, as suggested by cyril. The primary pc location can then be routed directly with the remaing 4 strands of Cat5, and secondary locations will be at most 1 join away on sepeart ethernet connections. The remaining issue is if I rip out the BT box, how then do you daisy chain on an RJ45 keystone for the phone line (as the BT has 3 connectors each side, ie 1 daisy in, 2 out). So yes the RJ45 will be fine for the last link of the daisy chain, but not in the middle. I assume you cannot just stuff 2 wires in a keystone for telephone connection. I've searched on innternet but bcan't see a solution.
You can put two wires into a 110 header (the IDC header on the rear of a RJ45) but I strongly do not recommend this, as they are readlly only designed for one wire. Get yourself some 3way scotchloks (electrical wholesalers have them) they are designed to terminate phone wiring (voice or DSL) and are gel filled to seal the connection. You can also get 2way ones (orange).
Quick word on using scotchloks, you dont need a special tool to close them, just a sensible use of a pair of flat nose pliers is fine. First before inserting wires (leave insulation on) into the lok untwist the pair 20-30mm then straighten each wire out for the last 10mm so that when inserted into the loc it is a straight as possible so will fall into both IDC valleys in the loc, ensure all wires are fully home (look through the clear rear of the loc) then give a squeeze with your fingers to start the lock then use the pliers (ensure the wires have not moved) and fully close the lock, use enough force to cause the gel to just start to exit the holes, no more.
