The length of cable wont affect performance
Ethernet is designed to run across cat5e or cat6 cables upto 100m with no change in performance, as say a 1m cable.

Generally speaking, gaming routers are a waste of money.
1) Don't game on wifi. It retransmits often. For many reasons. Retransmission will affect your latency in quite a detremental way. Use an ethernet cable.
2) Quite often they have all this marketing Mumbo Jumbo saying packets travel 20% faster. Its a load of codswallop. If you have fibre, you should have ~1ms ping to your router if your on a cable. Then from your router to the ISP should be fairly low dependant on where its backhauled to. You should get about 25-30ms to sydney (where many game servers are hosted) if your on fibre.
3) Some all in one products are just not that good.
I generally tend to find that a router, that just does routing is the best. When you start getting routers that have USB storage hubs and wifi and a whole bunch of features built into them, they tend to do some things well, and other things not-so-well.
I run separate access points, a cabled only - router, and have a media server all separately. This used to include a seperate VDSL 'modem' in bridge mode until i went from DSL -> Fibre, and i was able to drop the DSL modem for the ONT.
