Strewth Jase, you're up early! :-D Thanks for replying to me at such an early hour.
I'll keep plugging away at getting the Serviio files visible from my husband's laptop. I can see them from the bluray, so that's something.
Thanks again
Hi again Rob
Yes I can see the Bluray on the Serviio console, although it is defined as 'unrecognised', as are both the laptops.
ip address (I've checked and this is the correct ip) Unrecognised device Generic DLNA Profile
I'm having trouble finding how to check profiles on Serviio. Still Googling this ...

EDIT: - from that youtube clip I mentioned it looks like 'unrecognised device' is not uncommon.
What is the profile showing against the Blu-ray?

Hi again guys
Should I be able to see the bluray or Serviio under 'Homegroup'? The only constants I see there are both our laptops.
Sometimes even under 'Network' I can see only the laptops and Vodafone under 'computer' and under devices only my laptop server.
Should Homegroup and Network be like this?
Thanks
Hi Rob
Sorry, but I'm not sure how to look at the 'profile' against the bluray (or any device).
I'm still trying to find out how (Google) - it's probably something ridiculously simple but I can't find it :-( If this helps, it is ticked as 'Device Allowed'.
Can anyone help with how to find the 'profile' in Serviio?
Thanks again
OK - a quick look here : http://serviio.org/features
Shows that by default, serviio might not know about your blu-ray player. It does appear that Panasonic TVs should be recognised.
You have confused me a bit as to whther your TV and the Blu-ray can both be DLNA clients (I think you mentioned they could be) and are both able to be connected to your network at the same time.
If the TV is connected or connectable to your network, maybe hook it up now and see if the TV and the serviio server want to talk?

Actually - it appears on reading up the serviio online help, if it doesnt recognise what the device is, it should default to 'generic DLNA device' - which should be ok I think.
So your blu-ray should have the generic profile showing against it - so is probably ok.
Your router - being a wireless data model and a bit unusual, would be a bit hard to work out if it needed anything tweaking for DLNA.

Hi Rob
My understanding is that the TV and Bluray are both capable of being DLNA clients but I cannot connect the TV to the internet without a wireless adaptor. The bluray has wireless built in.
So whilst I can sometimes see the TV icon (Viera) on the network, I guess this must be because I have connected with the Bluray. They are both Panasonic and everything runs through the Bluray to the TV.
The TV itself fails the connection test every time and needs me to 'check network cable connection' so that would figure :-)
Hi again guys
A couple of things I wonder if they might be contributing somehow to the problem:
* Should I be able to see the bluray or Serviio under 'Homegroup'? The only constants I see there are both our laptops. Sometimes even under 'Network' I can see only the laptops and Vodafone under 'computer' and under devices only my laptop server. Should Homegroup and Network be like this?
* Through my husband's laptop I can see my files through just using my own laptop as a server, but can't see any files through Serviio. Would the fact that I can't see files in Serviio indicate that I have a file placement issue which may affect any connection I try to make?
Thanks again :-)

I am not sure about the windows homegroups etc - I dont think thats totally important for DLNA.
Make a folder somewhere basic like C:\test-videos on the laptop thats running serviio
Pop some test vids in there.
Make sure under the serviio console you add that folder as a video folder.
Stop/start the serviio server software.
Any joy?

Thanks
I gave that a go, new folder C://Test_Vids and put 3 different formats of vids in there. No joy :-( Can at least see the files on the Bluray (via the TV screen) but cannot see any files at all through Serviio on either laptop. And of course same old message through the Bluray "Cannot play".
Forgot to mention that I also stopped/started Serviio after setting up the test vids folder.
The fact you can see the filenames, but they wont play makes me think maybe the network is not allowing the content to be streamed. That could be your router or firewalls on the serviio PC getting in the way.
You could try (just briefly), turning the windows firewall off on the PC that is running the serviio server and see if you can playback the files. Dont leave if off permanently though - just as a test.

Thanks Rob
I tried that - no difference unfortunately.
On the off-chance, I'll Google to see if there have been connectivity issues with my model router and/or the Trend Micro Security we use.
