Hi all, I've got the incoming black telco wire connected by electrician to a length of solid core cat 6 UTP down to my cabinet where I want to wire it with an RJ12 connector to plug into my router.

The electrician connected the incoming wires to the cat6 in following config...

(Incoming --> Cat6):
Black --> Brown/white
Blue --> Brown
Orange --> Yellow
White --> Yellow/white

Trouble is I can't find any reference to which of the incoming colours should correspond to standard RJ12 colours... i.e.

Yellow, Green, Red, Black.

Anyone familiar with that set of incoming colours?

Hey thanks again everyone for the responses... we were on the right track but it turned out the line was dead anyway!

CoffeeBaron came yesterday afternoon and got everything connected up ship shape internally... connected the master filter I had bought in the roof on my side of the demarc with the incoming black/yellow pair going into the orange/white 'line' pair for the master filter. Sending the master filter blue/white pair (phone) down the cat6 blue/blue-white pair and the master filter green/white pair (modem) down the cat6 green/green-white pair.

In my cabinet he punched the cat6 blue/blue-white pair into the patch panel back of port 24 (for phone - will probably only connect 1 phone) and the cat 6 green/green-white punched into back of port 23 with an RJ45 to RJ11 cable going straight into the modem.

I called my ISP (Snap) who booked in Chorus, they turned up first thing this morning and the technician said he was getting dial tone on a line that had been left naked and not connected into the house. I suspect someone had pulled them out when the house was reclad during the renovation and poked the dead wire back through not the active one. Anyway I told him it hadn't been touched and he was good enough to say it was on their side of the demarc and they wouldn't charge for it.

He reconnected the active line to the line going into the house and voila we're connected!

I've learnt a few good things in the process and only had to pay a very reasonable amount for CoffeeBaron so fully recommend him to any other wannabe geeks like me who get stuck! ;)
