Hey guys;

I did some wiring in the dash of my car to put in another after market headunit. Had to do all the wiring myself and used cable connectors from super cheap auto.

They are small red things and im a little worried. There is no wire exposure and i used my crimping tool to press them all down into place and its been working fine. Does any1 here think its worth wraping up the cables and separating the battery cable frm the rest to prevent any possible shorting? Imn jsut concerned it might ground itself but its highly unlikly.

Paranoid.

What I actually had to do was unplug this config and then cut all the cables in the above pic. so i could get the Soney harness in. It was a different harness and what that meant was using cable joiners.

There are no instructions on how to use cable joiners or anything.

I'll take a photo when i get the chance but i left a bit more in the way of slack on each cable to get it in.

Looks nice.

In hindsight using heatshrink to wrap the joins would have been super cool. 
You could always gets some plumbing tape (that white stuff), and wrap your 'hot wires only' (which should only be your power, the run off to the amp and the run off to the antenna booster/expander (assuming you have one, if not highly reccomend one of these).

No need to wrap, will likely make it worse (inflexible bends etc)

Fuses are there for a reason.

Here is the link to the exact joiners I used to rewire the harness.

I stomped them down and did ti on my work bench and then I reattached the cables to the male->female connectors seen in the picture above.

Has anyone used thoes before?

I have used them but not that brand. If the insulation is snug against the inside then don't worry if you have done a good job. Do you know that you used the exact correct size on the crimping tool?

If they are not pulling out when you apply pressure, it is a job well done.

It is not something I do often. I did use some bad ones a long time back where the plastic insulation partially split during the crimping process.

Yeah thats what I found was happening or looking like it was going to happen.

It almost fractured etc.

I think they are ok honestly. But I saw a pic of a Mercialago burnt out on google and became paranoid haha...

To be fair - if you were wiring up a Murcielago, then you'd have cause to worry - on a standard run-of-the-mill Euro...not so much.

Man, just wrap the 2x main battery power leads in insulation tape, put it all back together and enjoy your new head unit.

Wrap straight over the top of the connectors you have already used and start say 2cm out from the crimp connector, so you get a lot of bite on the wire itself on both sides of the connector. This will prevent it sliding off etc.

Well done on giving it a go yourself too.

That looks fine. Just remember, use the female connectors on the live (+) side on the car harness and male on the negative side. So if they accidentally pop out they won't short onto the metal body of the car/ stereo. Do not use Plumbers white tape as someone has suggested, Plumbers tape is for Plumbers and electrical tape is for Sparkys. Your setup looks quite safe.

Thanks guys I appreciate the support. Its all working fine and dandy now. I think I will jump in the back and wrap up the wires with sparky tape just to put my mind at ease.

Its not like a computer hardly any room in these damn things. Cut my hand up a bit running the RCA cables to the Amp lol.

Ok so those connectors I have used I think are causing the headunit to restart.

Seems it'll run no problem for 30 seconds and then cut and restart.

If it happens stationary does that mean possible issue with voltage and if its moving its thoes dodgey SCA connectors?
