mattenz: Looks like they have the certification right on the Shelly website now https://shelly.cloud/knowledge-base/devices/shelly-25/

Thank you I somehow missed that!

No problem, it's quite a recent development.

Hi - is anyone using the Dimmer 2 with homebridge who can share their experience?

Does it allow for actual dimming via Homekit?

Presumably you can use a manual dimmer and the dimmer 2?

Is it guest proof? i.e. turn off manual switch still allows dimmer2 to turn back on and dim etc?

A latching switch can be used as input, but will get out of sync with the visual state when you switch it via wifi.

I don't think that a dumb dimmer will work as input, might be able to replace it with something (e.g. https://www.instructables.com/Shelly-Dimmer-Wall-Switch-With-Rotary-Knob-and-Hom)

You'd probably be better off replacing it all with a momentary switch.

I set all my switches to detached mode. Who cares which way up they are. It always just switches the lights to on or off. That is guest proof.

The other users have kind of covered it. You can either hook it up to a normal latching switch which can be configured on edge detection (switching it either way will cause it to change) or it can be configured to off state turns it off and on state turns it on. The latter obviously meaning that the switch gets out of state. The other way you can setup the dimmer is with a momentary switch in which case it can be configured so that a single press turns it on/off or to cycle through different brightness.

I wouldn't go down the route of the indestructible linked. Shelly removed rotary encoder support from the dimmer 2 sighting the fact their are no mains voltage rotary encoders available. Not to mention that it wouldn't be legal to do it yourself and no electrical worker would sign work like that off.

Ok - that makes sense. I don't think its a big deal having the switch be up or down and "out of sync". We have a few rooms that have two options anyway so one is always opposite the other.

Still keen to know if homebridge and shelly means HomeKit can adjust dimming though

Would just give my two cents and say the dimmer is much better with a momentary button.

Then it's all dimmable by just holding the button in which is good for guests.

Can't comment on homekit sorry.

Yep. Same here. Momentary works well with Dimmer. No smart device required at all for use with the momentary switch.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Can you point me towards the sort of momentary switch you’re talking about?

Does it do a one touch for on and off?

Using the Shelly plugin with Homebridge with a single momentary switch for on/off/dimming/brightening works fine (avoiding out of sync switches).  No issues with Homekit/Siri controlling lights and dimming percentage.  Completely removed my old dimmers and am even using them on a 2-way circuit which now has a momentary switch at either end (a lot simpler than a normal 2-way circuit).

I just got my Shelly 1 and Shelly 2.5. I noticed the Shelly 1 is not UL-certified. I regret not getting two Shelly 2.5's since they are almost the same size and price and the Shelly 2.5 is better certified.

Hey!

I just got a little box of Shelly toys....can anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful electrician in Wellington that can install the Shelly 3EM in my switchboard?

Cheers!

I think you might struggle to get a sparky to install the 3EM, as it's not certified for NZ. Only the 2.5, 1 and 1PM are certified. That's not to say the 3EM isn't safe, as it's probably built to the same standard as their other products
