SirHumphreyAppleby:
IMO, the Pi is now getting too expensive as the higher end models are pushing closer to the price of x86 hardware with built-in storage and support for SATA etc.
I am a little concerned by this too. There is still the Pi Zero. Though I think that really needs to get a little bit of a hardware bump. Couple of more modern cores would be nice (even at Pi 3 level cores). Plus a bit more RAM (even just to 1GB).
My guess is the 1GB Pi 4 was dropped as the price difference to build/supply was so small (maybe even cents rather than dollars) no one would by the 1GB one anyway.

Out of interest what are most people using their Pi's for?
OpenAuto Pro
CPU: AMD 5900x | RAM: GSKILL Trident Z Neo RGB F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC-32-GB | MB: Asus X570-E | GFX: EVGA FTW3 Ultra RTX 3080Ti| Monitor: LG 27GL850-B 2560x1440

Will be getting one shortly (waiting delivery); the purpose will be for downloading dashcam footage automagically, and I'll be playing with PiHole too for a start. Other use-cases may follow...

I have 2 of the 3B model:
The one running Rasplex will probably be replaced by a more modern streaming box this Christmas (in time for guests), at which point I plan to re-purpose it for PiHole. Or instead use if for a project to test whether a Jellyfin server is fit for purpose to replace Plex before building a properly specced server. Or maybe used as a VPN server. I haven't decided which of these is the highest priority to tinker with.
I run piCorePlayer on an old Model B+ for my office, and for bluetooth speakers on a Pi Zero W.
My other Model B+ is currently acting as a BlueTooth LE -> MQTT relay for home automation
My Pi3 is used for general hacking around.
I'm interested in the 8GB model as a potential container host if we can get 64 bit distros like Centos running on it.
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
I suppose having been critical of the Pi, I should probably say what I use mine for.
Pi B+ - Several years in a box on the roof feeding ADS-B data to FlightRadar24 and FlightAware. Recently removed so I could take power from the unit for the weather station. No sign of any issues after extended use in that environment.
Pi 2B - IIRC, ran Kodi originally but has been largely unused since. Was being used for testing the automation software I've been working on.
Pi 3B - Runs Kodi. Likely to be repurposed for automation.
Pi 3B+ - Used to test a kiosk and display system I created. Ran Kodi for a while after that project was finished. As of today, with the official release of a 64-bit OS, is the new development platform for my automation system.

just remember it's ARM64.
i've been struck by this with my N2, tons of repos don't support ARM64.
It's often a trivial thing to grab the dockerfile from git and switch it's source OS to ARM64 for most things but it can come with quirks.
