I've stuck with using the Tado and haven't even tried the Sensibo. In fact it is still boxed, which explains why I never posted an unboxing.

Just incase anybody else was considering the Sensibo is currently on Special USD 129. About NZD 200 with shipping. Still expensive. Hoping long term will be worthwhile with better inter-connectivity, support etc than the Chinese versions.

Just an update on this on this topic after using a Sensibo for a while.

Basically had a few teething issues, but all works fine now.

Android App control.
7 day multi schedules
Remote on and off etc
IFTTT recipes setup, i.e turn on based on weather forecast or when near with geo fence.
Voice control through Amazon Echo
Using with an Hitachi Heatpump
They also show history graphs of the temperature and humidity in the room which can be interesting.

A beta feature to recognize when the heatpump is on (has been activated by the remote control) is also in testing.

One thing about heatpump IR codes, for people looking at playing with these, is that they're pretty uniformly unnecessarily complicated. If you hit the temperature-up-1 button on the remote, instead of sending a command "temp +1" it sends a multi-hundred-bit codeword that completely reprograms the heatpump. Probably only one bit has changed (the temp +1), but this is communicated by the equivalent of a reformat+reinstall with new parameters. So third-party controllers, or DIY, are really hard to get right because a lot of the control word components are unknown, or only partially known. In case you're grumbling about your $30 Aliexpress special not working properly, given the way these things are controlled it's a wonder they work at all.
