Hi

Decided to switch from using an old Navman to using my iPhone for turn-by-turn in the car. I currently have an original iPhone 4 but will get a 5 as soon as I can buy one outright.

Can anyone recommend a car window mount that will take both phone sizes?

And while I'm here, TomTom or Navigon app for use in Australia? Navigon is $10 cheaper but the description says you have to pay for regular map updates, but doesn't have the price?

The NKMOS Ultima looks awesome, IMHO.
Still pre order only, but shipping later this year.

I hope you are following the discussion and realise iOS 6 maps are not reliable yet. Even Apple suggested using third party map apps.

Yeah I've updated to iOS 6 and tried the maps app - I wouldn't use maps for turn-by-turn, I don't like the over head style, which Is why I asked about the TomTom or Navigon apps. I installed Waze this morning, it looks good but I'll have to take it for a drive to see how well it works, no caching of maps for offline and they seem a bit slow to load on 3G.

I quite like the iOS 6 maps. You can toggle between overhead and "3d" views.
The maps data, ie the streets seems to be mostly pretty good, it's the same data as used in the tomtom app, I believe.
I agree that the Apple maps POI database and satellite imagery is certainly not as good as google maps.

Kensington do really good mounts, i've been using the same one for about 4 years. Rock solid.

Ok, back home... Try the Nokia Universal Holder CR 122. Available for around $30 in New Zealand through Nokia or someone on Trade Me...

Sygic is where its at for maps on iOS. $46ish

Dealextreme is the place for cheap mounts etc.

Thanks, I tried searching for it but didn't manage to find that one, it looks good, have you tested it with an iPhone 4?

So Sygic uses TomTom maps with free updates and is $35 cheaper than the TomTom app for both AU & NZ, sounds too good to be true! I hope the app is as good but it's cheap enough to try out.
