Apple very much cares about the the holistic experience with their products, this is why they spend a long time and a lot of effort just designing the packaging.

 

 

 

 

Packaging? You realise that the cardboard box at the centre of this discussion *is* packaging? And clearly Apple hasn't spent *any* time or effort on designing it.

That is dumb, warehouse staff are some of the most resourceful minds when it comes to packing items, they recycle cartons, cut them down to size, use voidfill etc to ensure goods are securely packed into the cheapest means possible volumetrically as couriers charge by weight or volume whichever is the larger. this example would be a fail no other way to look at it

Well usually the goal of these business systems is to have one size fits all and standard procedure. I'd say this is a win based on those criteria. The actual freight will be done on some bulk deal so don't expect everyone getting paid for the wasted volume either. Corporation win!

Once you factor in the time/labour spent picking and packing, is it worth it?  I suspect Apple have done the maths and decided that it isn't.
